This one is a fake. It is a mayo jar. All of the fake Shell oil bottles I've saw are those.

I see on ebay that they are repopping the tall shell penn bottles too. I was thinking of buying a few to finish my crate but i can't tell the difference through the pics

It is the tall bottles that I was inquiring about. I should have mentioned that.

From what I have seen on the tall bottles they are not done very well. The logo and copy is not raised correctly and in some case difficult to read. Had a guy try to trade me for another bottle with one and it was so obvious to me that it was a re-pop which he thought was original.

I was told that you can see air bubbles in the real ones where as the repops have nice clean smooth glass. May have to hold them up to the light. Either way those repop piece of ---- hurt the hobby.

THanks,
I will check with my Finnish friend about the caps - he has gotten the bottles from England IIRC.
I just posted the question as I thought the labels were so nice and the bottles had all the residue/fogging. Also, I believe he has some with the later 60s red X-100 label - seem a little late for bottles?

Quick response.... he got worn caps with both Shell and Castrol logos on them so it seem legit then.
