I am looking for a blank globe, preferably plastic. As I will have the pump outside, I have chosen plastic repro. This doe not hurt so bad if some one steals the globe. The reason for the blank globe is the pump I have came from a station in Lansing that was an independent. Art's Refinery #1 is the name I will be putting on it. So............is there a source for blank globes?

thanks for reading,

willy

Most of the vendors who sell repro globes should be able to supply a plastic Capco globe frame (body) and clear or frosted glass lenses. Here is a link to Time Passages page with several choices of plain lens globes. Time Passages sponsors Oldgas.com Shop Talk by advertising with banner ads.

The sites I ended up buying from was www.pergl.comwww.gaspump.comwww.vicsplace.comwww.webbers.com & www.globalight.biz

They all have some GREAT parts and GREAT prices. I think I have 13 pumps now on display in area Kansas museums that have those data plates on display with them.

PS – I understand totally about the blank globes – one of the things you might think about is putting the plastic lens on them with a decal that matches the pump brand. Most people will never know it is not a “glass” globe. Then if someone hits it with a paint ball gun the lens will not break…

How does a thread about blank globes and where to get them turn into a bash-a-vendor thread. Gas Pump Heaven AKA Park Drive Garage & my company Vic's Place, LLC work very closely together (we are each others' largest customer). They are some of the hardest-working people in the hobby. I hope the moderators will do the appropriate thing and delete or at least lock this thread.

It was the right thing to do Travis...if you've got a beef with those folks, that's your prerogative, but I don't think it's fair to air the dirty laundry on a message board.

What on earth on your talking about Dick? My post was in reference to Travis absolutely RIPPING Andy Anderson of Park Drive Garage. You don't see that because he editted it out his post (it was about 2 paragraphs!) and I commended him for doing so. I was saying that he should handle his problems with PDG with them and not air it on this site. It's called sticking up for a friend. That is why I asked for the thread to be locked. It had nothing to do with a referral! Sure I've got 500 frosted lenses in stock, but did you see me solicit wmagoo's business. HELL NO! Everybody on this site knows who has what and who doesn't and most everyone on this site already has their preferred vendor. Try and figure out what is going on before you try and chime in with your words of wisdom.

FYI...It's OFFENSE with an S.

Hey Willy -

I got to thinking about this tonight. I think what may be the best thing for you to do is use a clear lexan blank from one of the venders, and see if you can have a sign shop put the logo for your company on the INSIDE of the blank. That way it will not wear off with rain and stuff! That should not cost too much.

What I have done in the past is buy a sheet of " lexan " at home depot and using one of my glass lens's as a template I trace it out and cut it with tin snips. They fit nice and can save you just a little scratch!!! I usually paint the inside of the lens and use this on the back of display pumps lens's.

Be sure to post a picture of the globe & pump when you get it done...

Willy...the easiest way that I have found to do this is to buy a clear (no paint at all lens). Have the sign shop make you your vinyl lettering that will stick to the INSIDE of the convex lens. THEN, get some FUSION paint from Krylon in white. Fusion paint is a plastic based paint that won't krinkle the vinyl lettering. Frost the inside of your globe with the paint using smooth even strokes. That way, once your globe is together, you won't be able to feel anything but the smooth glass. This is how we make custom ad glass for restorations. It works great. BE SURE TO BE THE FUSION PAINT BY KRYLON or your vinyl lettering will krinkle & shrink.

Willy:

Seth hit the nail on the head!

For straight lettering and simple images without a lot of detail - your local 'vinyl' shop is the place to go. Just make sure that they understand that the lettering goes on the inside of the glass.

Good luck - and be sure to post some photos for us to see.

Later . . .

Jim

Thanks for the tip about the Fusion paint. I had not heard of it. Sounds like something I might try in the future.
