This s my favorite place to seek info as oldgas community is both knowledgeable and honest, so please help me.

I'm no computer person
I need a new desktop computer as my 3 year old rebuild is slow and has issues
Is Windows 8 a decent system yet or should I go with 7?
Can I get a windows 8 without any embedded software such a MacAfee or do I get what I get in my under $500 price range?
If I'm not a gamer, are all processers pretty much the same?
Is there a good time this time of year when there are GREAT deals?
Here are a couple I've been looking at just for comparison:

I'm no computer guy but I've had this Windows 8 for a couple years now I guess and I still hate it. I liked windows 7 much better.

Go the Apple store and you'll never have to worry about anti-virus ***** again.

I do not think you can get windows 7 on anything new, maybe leftover models. 8 is pre-installed on everything new and you have no choice. and I too still hate the 8

You can still get Windows 7 on new computers, but maybe not in stores.

Dell with Windows 7

Lenovo with Windows 7 option when you get on that page, click on the blue "Customize & Add" button

I'll 4th the don't like Windows 8. Wife has a laptop with it. Worth the very short wait to order one with Windows 7.

Wife is not very computer literate and seems to work well for her since all her links are on the Cloud. But when it needs updates and such I bang me head on the desk dealing with it.

OK, I've heard absolutely nothing good about Windows 8 either here or in reviews, so I'm going to stay away from that.
A was looking a an Asus computer that had Windows 7, but they sold out before I could pull the trigger.
Asus
Hopefully there'll be some good sales that rival the Black Friday sales soon.

A few of my News Years resolutions:
Avoid Windows 8 like the plague
Avoid Ebola like it's Windows 8.
