Hi Guys.... This Oilcantable I saw on a market 4 weeks ago... Even it was not in the best condition I thought it would be a good add to my garage... But the seller was raising 500.- Euro ( about 680.- US )... I thought this was way to high... He reduced to 420.- Euro but I left it there.... What do you think if you verify the pricesrange to the US ???? Thanx andy

That price does sound a little high to me, but that is a pretty neat piece. I've never seen anything like it, that's for sure. What American brands do you usually see over there?

Are you sure this is an authentic piece? Consider it might be just a stand made up then two signs attached to it. If I were you I would take a good look at it before I purchased it. You might be just buying two signs. Jack Sim

Hi jack and fellers..
thanks for your recommendings... I discussed the piece with a experienced collector at the market... It was defenately authentic and used in the 30ies or until the 50ies..but he also agrees the high price....
by the way : we have here appeared . Mobilgas veedol esso, standard, i guess nearly all of your brands show up sometimes.. Even american pumps are on ebay... Andy

I dont think the price is that High.. Its 2 Mobil signs at 210 each. If they were on ebay at 210 each Buy it Now they would not last a day..
2 signs plus a oil rack.. not a bad deal
it will be a higher price if it gets to a big swapmeet.. is my thinking..

Hey Andy, your petro collector must do his "homework" ;-). The signs are from around 1947 and are from the transition period when Mobil was leaving the Gargoyle as a symbol for their oil products and introducing the Pegasus. The signs also have the "new" sans serif text that came to use after WWII. I don't know anything about the autentithy of this piece, but the signs are the normal signs used in this period around 1947-1950. br Claes

I dont know anything about the value, but the US old gas guys should be aware of the fact that the US Dollar to Euro conversion is now $1.46 and dropping every day. So the last asking price was $613.00. Maybe thats a fairer price? Just my .02 euros worth John
