I Don't like having globes just sitting around on things not in a globe ring (and not wanting to drill holes in antique furniture) and also did not want a globe shelf in the living area takes up to much sign space grin, have shelves in the basement but wanted a few globes upstairs so took a old cast iron lamp base bolted a globe ring on it, painted it up now I don't have to worry about it being knocked over, probably do a couple more, just need to get it wired.

Russ-- Did the base come from an old floor type lamp? They come up in auctions here all the time and they practically have to give them away.

Did you put some felt on the bottom of the legs to protect the furniture ?

Yes the floor lamp style and yes they are cheap. I grab mine out of the scrap yard when I see them, most seem to have a smaller flat area on top of the base that does not come out near to the edge of globe ring though which doesn't look right then.

Yes,furniture is protected with thin felt on bottom of legs cool

I can't wait to find one of those and repurpose it. I have some globes in my office that are sitting on wooden bases, but I never really liked the look!

This one I used American accent crackle paint I had around. The other 2 will be for metal body globes and will be painted then patina'd to match the body's, one nice thing is bases are different design to give more character.

I was so impressed with Russ's idea to repurpose old floor lamp bases, that I bought the first one that looked like it would work! It cost a whole $5 in an auction and I had the globe holder ring, so I don't have much invested! Thanks for the idea Russ!

Dick just used the 36B tops that he seemed to have cornered the world's supply of. More expensive than the $5 you have into the lamp base Kevin but both look good!

......All the lamps in hotels everywhere around gas shows now will be missing there bases! Lol . That was quite a crafty idea and looks really nice , great idea and handy work . Those bases even have a old Art Deco theme going for them. How neat.
