TEXACO 'Scotties' cast-iron 'door stop'-- 1930s.

I picked this up at the Columbus Ohio 'Check The Oil' show in 1996 from class-act collector/vendor Jeff Koenker.

That event featured a proliferation of oil-company animal-related wares. A huge (Fiberglas) Esso 'Watch Dog' that was newly-restored by Dwight Sawyer was (NFS) on display in Bob Rymer's room and numerous other mascot dogs and birds were offered for sale, including multiple incarnations of (Flying A's) 'AxleRod,' Sunoco/Disney's 'Pluto' and 'Goofy,' and various renditions of the Richfield Eagle and Fleetwing seagull were in abundance.

Oh ... the Scottie doorstop (over 3.5 pounds) is $220.00, including (USA only) USPS Priority shipping. No PayPal -- check or M.O. is fine.

Thanks.

Pretty sure if you don't have "LISTEN" embossed on the base. Then that's not Texaco. Just saying...

This piece is not marked "Listen," -- I was unaware any (doorstops) were, but this is an original Belvidere (Ohio) casting #157 (marked). Offers considered.

Neat piece but in my opinion not a Texaco item.

Keep in mind that Ford used the Scotties as their mascot also. These are probably a Ford item. Just a thought.

Thanks,

Wow! FOMOCO Scotties! -- that's a new one on me me Goober.
May very-well be, but I really doubt Ford used that particular well- known (pair) image which Texaco used in their 'Listen' promotional campaign. That specific (Scottie PAIR) image was used extensively by Texaco to adorn and/or create lamps, promotional ads, key chains, postcards, luggage stickers, ink blotters match-pack covers etc. etc.

Regards,

Excellent piece indeed!

Thanks for posting the image. But it is a bit odd that all of the other Texaco 'LISTEN' renditions clearly show the right tip of the one Scottie's ear 'bent over.'

FYI -- Artist Morgan Dennis created the origional etching from which the 'bent ear' depiction is derived.

So it goes

So it goes

OR ... as I have a second one (image below) and the pair make great 'bookends,' I will part with BOTH for $240.00, including (lower 48) shipping.
