...wow...not that DB needs anyone to fight his battles, but his contributions to this site (AND the hobby) dwarf any that the Picker-Come-Lately crowd will ever make - because their motivation is money, and their inspiration is Reality TV...
...if you want to know what Oldgas would be like without people like DB, Jack Sim, etc., go on Facebook, and browse some of the gas station memorabilia pages...it's pathetic...the discussion gets about as in-depth as 'is it for sale?' or 'how much?'...
...one more thing: it seems obvious to me that if you're going to buy an item/items on eBay and then turn around and list them on eBay, it would be advisable to make sure the old listing is ended, before starting your listing...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Old gas web sight I like .....Face book etc , i don't like ...... All the fun and poking and drama here I do like , keeps it interesting to read! Some nights I can't wait to get home. And lots of great stories and pictures and a wealth of knowledge that I think most do appreciate.
I like SINCLAIR and old American made stuff ... No china items.

DB has his own way of saying things like a lot do, sometimes it's like salt in a cut but it's still good info, it's what you do with that info that matters. Sometimes I just login and read and copy and paste some "Petro tidbits" as I call it.
I've learned so much from him and many others and I'm great full for the knowledge.

My vote is with DB or anyone else that contributes on a regular basis. Most pickers or flippers I don't mind and there is room for them in the hobby. But, I've had my fill of these e-Bay clowns. Simply here to promote their business and using this site to sell or buy items without contributing to any threads from a knowledge base are useless to me.
I wouldn't sympathize with any of these handful of e-Bay clowns. You won't see me suckholing up to them. I haven't bought an item from any of them and never will. Surely, they wouldn't be buying for me as I'd be making sure not to leave any meat on the bone for them.
The drama is caused by them (same handful) and their only concern...a quick flip. Trying to sell the item before it's in their possession, before the sellers had a chance to remove the listing...ect.
They're like a cancer on the hobby.

My 2 cents.... If you in this hobby for the enjoyment of collecting, learning and searching for the items you love. This is the perfect site. If your a picker or a picker want a be, this is the perfect site to learn all about this hobby. If your trying to make a living buying and selling Petroliana this isn't the best site because members very seldom are going to pay you your asking price. If you want to sell a sign for $7500 that you just paid $2500 on here it better be a rare one or this isn't the place to sell it.
And I have no problem selling an item that I found somewhere just to throw on e-bay and make a few bucks!!! But no one can ever question my honesty about said item!
DB, Jack Sim, Ron Scobie, Randy Jones and many others have taught me so much in this Hobby and I believe they have over all these years because, I earned their respect and have always been honest with them!
We have seen quite a few new members get all wound up when they feel they are not getting the respect they think they deserve....well I had to earn mine it wasn't given to me!!!
Thanks Mike

Ditto on Mike's comments. Great site to learn from and meet people virtually and in person if you want to! And you don't have to date them either.

If he (indiana) is the future, I guess we needn't use commas and periods anymore.

Your choice sorry indiana its just hard to read at least for myself when peoples sentences never stop the reader is left to make it all out themselves not sure about your phone but my phone has a comma and a period button that is as easily pressed as a letter but your choice if dont want to it would just be easier to read thats all im saying commas periods there is a reason why most of us use them i guess we are lucky that you find the time to press to space bar ill be careful not to make a personal attack here but one incident will always stand out in my mind when i hear your name pop up selling stuff and that is your use of zip ties to seal a package ignorant to the fact that it was wrong to use them then after finding out there was a problem instead of owning up as it being your mistake you blame the buyer for not getting insurance i could look past your other issues youve had here but that one will always stick out in my mind dishonest ripped off your words i just hope you learned from that mistake and learned how to package for a SAFE delivery to your customers

Right, i have never contributed anything to the site....i only sell on here....stop throwing me in that category of "other pickers".... look at my posts, i have contributed on the site. I barely ever post anything for sale on here. Also I have auctioned stuff off on this site and had the money made from the sales donated to Jim to run the site and as a thank you for making this a great place to learn about many of the older companies. If you think i don't care about the hobby you are incorrect.

List a Red Paper Clip w/ 100% going to Oldgas & see what it sells for! IF you had listed same cans on ebay they wouldn't have sold for $10ea. YOU DONATED 2 CANS & postage, nothing more.
Signs laying on A FLOOR, could be ANYONES FLOOR.
You should have been getting Better at Fixing Bridges, but now your working on yours,TOO.

Yea I know it was stupid thought that they would actually figure it out that if your honest with people you don't have to defend yourself over and over. And how this post that started out defending the guy's on this site that has made the hobby what it is got turned into the Joey/Indiananationals "stop picking on us" thread? And no offense Joey, Stop defending your brother on here. He burned alot of bridges when he was here and then left. Just because he doe's something on e-bay that doesn't sit well here, IMO let it go and build on your own reputation!

Some might not agree but here goes. I just did a trade with Indiananationals. Went and met him in person for the first time. Straight up honest young man in my opinion. We talked about oldgas and how unforgiving, non forgetting, and opinionated some members are. Discussed the zip tie incident and selling without possessing issues. The guy knows he made a mistake with those incidents. We all make mistakes. I say give him a break. Met Joey and Anthony in Iowa. Bought something from them and sold them something as well. All is good in my book as far as dealing with them. Buying and selling for profit seems to rub some people the wrong way but these guys are coming up with good items. If you don't like how they operate avoid them. Fortunately or unfortunately these younger guys are the future of the hobby. As more and more disappears into collections there is clearly a demand for what they bring to market. I've been collecting myself for 15yrs and love to buy and sell more now than when I started. Now wheres that beating a dead horse cartoon!

The guy knows he made a mistake with those incidents. We all make mistakes. I'm confused... why acknowledge that to you, and not to the buyer? Why not admit the mistake when he was called out for it in the thread the buyer started? If he had done that, then "most" people here would have chalked it up as a mistake/learning experience for him. I know I would. I don't understand that. The "red paperclip" deal will never be forgotten. That's just one of the "memorable" moments in oldgas history. Sorry.

you and your 4 1/2 friends DB has friends? I'd buy from you Joey. You seem like a good guy. Have reasonable prices. Leave some "meat on the bone" for the next guy. Your just caught up in the drama involving your brother. As for the infamous redhot, not sure I can afford/justify spending $2500 for a $500 sign. Which is an example of his markup and is usually the case for all his stuff. My loss. I'll be the one that buys the same sign from the next guy, in better condition, for $500.

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? He’s a mile away and you’ve got his shoes I'll pass on that. All of what I know about him stinks. Wouldn't want to be in his shoes. What happens when you say you'll make a deal to walk in those (Indiana's) shoes... then you put those shoes on ebay before you actually receive the shoes.... then the deal falls through and you never got the shoes? Do you look like a fool for listing the Powerlube sign... err... I mean shoes?

Fortunately or unfortunately these younger guys are the future of the hobby. ...man, I hope not...while there are younger guys out there who will be the future of this hobby (unless they get priced out of it) these guys seen 'American Peckers', thought 'beats working at Jiffy Lube', and are riding the bubble, like the other speculators...when the bubble bursts, they'll move on to the next thing...

Mark, Thank you for starting this thread as a reminder to all on here how much we will miss a number of members when they are gone. And here we are a few days later and DB is gone.
It saddens me to think this thread started as a reminder to all those on Old-Gas that whether or not we agree with another member, there still needs to be some respect given to those that helped bring this Hobby to where it is today.
What saddens me the most is that a few could not follow your lead and right away went to attack mode to defend themselves when this thread had "NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM"
And though I can not share DB's Comment, it was those exact same thoughts he expressed!! Rest in Peace DB Godspeed my friend!
Thanks Mike
Always Looking for any Pure Oil and Sunoco Items.
