Hey guys I need your help. I have a chance to buy this Sinclair Opaline but if you look at the oil can you can see they did not add the Sinclair oils text in the red square on the can. Does this add to the value or detract from the value? I have not found another like it. I know misprint coins are more valuable, but I'm just not sure how it effects sign.

...I would think it would detract from the value, for most people...that's a shame, it looks very nice otherwise...looks like the text is there, it was just overprinted??

What value would you guys place on this sign with the factory defect and there's a small chip on the o, l, the top left green section and some minor chips around the edges.

everyone is going to have a different opinion on value... so overpaying would be subjective.

the red square on the can must have just been a sticker... cause this sure looks to me to be the same sign as the one on ebay: 261536071107

...I think you're right, Bryce - which begs the question: why in the %$#@ would anyone put a sticker over part of the sign?

The chips on both signs are indicative of both pictures being of the same sign.

Maybe, it was painted in and aggressive cleaning removed it???

What would you guys pay if the defect is not there? I haven't looked at it in person yet.

If it were a factory flaw, I do not see it helping the value in any way.

I also think the two signs in the above post are the same sign.

The one on ebay now is at $2200 starting bid the last I looked at it. The sign has great shine, I do not think the starting bid is way out of line.

I saw the sign in the OP also on ebay a few days ago, did not find it just now. Not sure what the story is but the sign on ebay would look good on my wall as it would be an upgrade to mine.

Plus free delivery to IG if I read the add right.

I just found out it was red paint and I checked ebay and it sure is the same sign. The fact that someone painted the red square worries as to why someone would do that.

I wouldn't worry to much over why it was painted over. The sign looks "right" in the eBay listing. Is the guy that has the sign you are going to look at the same guy that has it listed on eBay?

The guy that has it listed is actually a member on the site. We exchanged emails on the sign - I agree, think the starting price on this one is very fair given condition. Would buy it for an upgrade to the one I have but saving the green for IG.
