Thanks for the pictures. I was there but still saw some new stuff in the pictures. There will be room to room tonight and I know a couple vendors plan on setting up for a couple hours in the morning before the auction. Good show, I got a few small things. My brother had Strong sales.

So I got to go to my first real gas show yesterday and I met a lot of gassers that was nice. I was very glad to meet mr. Jack Sim one of the greats in the hobby. Very good show the room to room was a little strange at first but it was fun.

Here's some pics that took few doubles but that's ok.

Nice pic's John.

If, I went to show like that....I would be in trouble. How do you decide what not to buy?

I'm sure, I would lose all self control and buy till I ran out of money...would probably have to pan handle for gas money to get back home.

Anyone know who had all the plates and paddle signs on the table with the red air meter... which also had the Shell and Texaco signs in front leaning against the front of the table?

Thanks.

Anyone know what the asking price was on the rectangular Packard sign with the light housing?

Also, Does anyone know if the Indian sign sitting on the trailer hitch was real or not?

Great pictures shawn! Thanks for taking the time to take them and upload them so everyone could see...
It was great to see Everyone! Sales were strong!

Hi-Point Light up sign is Mint in the original box.
I believe PENTON motorcycles owned this oil company in the 60's when this sign was made...
asking 1200...works great!

great show... each night was out in the parking lot at 1am still loading up pumps.

but was a little surprised to see the amount of vendors with unpriced items. that has to hurt their sales, I usually just look and walk by if no prices listed. wish they operated at shows like the OldGas for sale section, lol. a roll of painters tape & a sharpie cost $5

I really dont understand the tactic behind not pricing items... suppose to be a 'vendor' spot, not a 'showcase' spot.

there were at least 5 items that I would have been willing to pay good money for, but instead I just walked on by. there was one or two Shell clamshell signs, a seloil cabinet, goodyear porcelain sign, one gas pump, & one other sign... all that I would have been willing to give a 'fair' price for but didnt bother because they lacked prices. with many people around each vendor spot, it gets annoying having to track down who's spot it is in order to find out a price.

and the best part about shows is seeing those new items that catch your eye that you have no idea what they are worth... how are you suppose to know if you are looking at a $500 item or $5000?

I understand each person can do as they wish, but I heard some vendors mention 'slow' sales... and I believe this can be a part of that. But it was still a great show, and even the ones without prices provided great stuff to look at!

Tom i will add you on Facebook...me and Anthony will be in Iowa and can't wait to make a bunch of new friends. Over at CTO we had the pleasure of meeting Jarvis, Bryce, Wes, and many others just to name a few. It's tough for us east coast guys to meet you midwest fellas since many of the shows are out your ways... We got to meet John (MDQG) with absolutely incredable stuff. He made that long drive from Cali. Me and Anthony will most definitely start going to every show we can going forward and will try our best to make it out to Cali for the gas bash.

Bryce,

Me and Anthony made that mistake. We were in such a rush we didn't price all of our stuff. We probably lost a few sales but we did pretty good overall. The rain really killed the whole day imo...we packed up and came back Friday night for room to room. I think our biggest mistake was we brought way to much stuff and brought to many duplicate signs. We had like 6 or 7 texaco 42 inchers lol. When we go to iowa we are going to bring our best and rarest stuff, we have a few gems nobody knows about

It would be nice to have everything priced. But that is a dream. Most of the time you are so busy that pricing is the last thing you worry about. You load, drive hours, unload, load a few hours later, try to shop and eat something and sleep. I came a day early and was one of the last to leave and missed at least a dozen rooms. Never made it above the fifth floor.

If I have time on the larger items I will take a post note and a marker and walk around and price. Don't use the colored ones, if it rains they will stain the item. With a quick pricing it give the shopper an indication of weather you are reasonable on your pricing.

I have learned to ask if I am interested. You never know what someone will say. At the last show a vendor had a Wayne 60 and a 70. When someone asked the 70 was $1000 and the 60 was $1200. Which got sold and what went back home ?

Just because it is in a case does not mean it is expensive, you have to ask.

Asking prices initiates’ conversation, conversation leads to relationships, relationships lead to friends... It’s nice to have relationships with dealers, sometimes you’ll find you get a BETTER deal.. If you're seriously interested ask the prices.. Seems simple to me?

same can be said: smile

listing prices initiates interest, interest leads to negotiation, negotiation leads to sales... its nice to have sales... if you're serious about selling, you would list a price... seems simple to me?

I personally don't see a problem with either method. I like this stuff too much, to go through all the effort of getting to a show and then walking away from something I like because, it wasn't priced. Who am I, really hurting?

If, I take the time to stop and ask, it's because I want to buy an item. The only time I walk away...is when I'm patiently waiting for my turn to speak with a vendor. The vendor is standing their talking to someone they know about something trivial like what they ate the night before and ignoring a potential buyer. That's when I usually throw out a few choice profanities and walk away. Are they not there to sell? Plenty of time to socialize between sales. Buyers and sellers should mutually respect each others time.

When, I sell items to customers, I always leave the customer with the impression that I appreciate their business and will work hard to earn their return business.

glad you mentioned it Tom... this is the best $50 you can ever spend on a show: (and for the record, I was pulling it around with one 24" sign on it, lol... but I wish there was a lot more on it!)

ever thought that price tags fall of? Ever thought that stickers mess up tin signs? I do not price because I do not want to ruin the condition of an item weather it is tin, paper, glass, or porcelain. Thought we were trying to preserve items not ruin them to please other people

my bad... just trying to give a little buyers' feedback. in reality, a good majority of my buys came from un-priced vendors.

back to pictures... wasn't there a group picture? I missed it, but would like to see it!

So why exactly are you trying to stir things up? Life has enough drama without needless more being created.

Just my opinion , but have found individuals sometimes do not put a price on things and size up the prospective buyer and price based on how deep their pockets look! Apparel , knowledge of the item they are looking at et'c. Sometimes allows you to get more out of an item.

Wanted TEXACO related items & SUNOCO related items .Signs -Globes et'c. Oil Cans - Grease cans .

Since the topic of un priced items as come up,I have to agree with many, I now walk by a booth when no items priced. As far as the excuse of not having time, or stickers, come on you get ready for shows plenty of time to price. As BUZZY56 says and I would agree with his assessment as well. If any people are at the shows they are looking to expand or find something to resale, seeing a price on an item makes you more interested than no price. This topic has nothing to do with any od the shows, as they all have good points.

Me and Anthony went over to Staples and bought shipping tags with ties. They worked well for the items we did throw a tag on. We also used a black sharpie so when it rained the colors didn't run off onto the signs.

Joey, I have done that before at other shows. Worse thing is about those tags is when they get wet they tend to fall off. It's just became a hassle after a while and I stopped pricing them. I may try pricing items next show just to see if I see a difference in sales

I may be in the minority Bryce, but painters tape works great, just take it off after each show. Also, if I see dealers without at least half of there stuff priced I keep the 10k walking cause I figure it's not for sale. My 2 cent's

I like prices on items , If they dont price it I will walk right by it . It's like going to a garage sale no price No buy . it also makes selling at a swapmeet better cause if the person is looking for something he knows the price without hanging around to have find someone answer (hey how much is that !)

We try to put a price on our stuff. It saves a lot of confusion and stress for us. There are advantages , though to not pricing items. When someone asks about an item ,then it starts the repertoire with the seller. In other words , you know they are at least interested and sometimes a conversation is what it takes to get an item a new home. Also if a person youd prefer not to sell something to comes by you can tell them its three times your asking price. That way it saves you the trouble of stomping it! lol

Basically Pricing is a plus but sometimes with the hustle and bustle, tags fall off or get forgotten all together. I find that if I bring really interesting and hard to find items that they sell themselves no pricing needed. If you lay out a 8+ SS Chevrolet sign or Hood, Jenney, etc. People are not going to pass it buy if they want it. On the other hand if you have a Gulf or Mobil pump plate which everyone has seen 1000's of and it's not priced well....... then there is a good chance the people will not stop and keep right on trucking. Never had any complaints and I usually don't have prices on most items. Never left ANYWHERE thinking "gee I could have had an extra $500 if I had Only brought my tape and Sharpe". Still a good idea if you have time and a lot of common items.
