I thought I recall someone in the past saying that blue porcelain can be tough to reclaim once in this condition.
Any thoughts?

Steve,

You should use some wax for it. Try howards feed wax, it should bring the blue back and get rid of the water stains

It is what it is, and you will never bring back the cobalt blue color, but you can enhance it by using a wax of some sort.
The sign is still a good display piece, it just doesn't have that good color anymore.

I agree, I'd just put a good wax on it and enjoy it!

It was for sale near me. I thought if I could get a deal on it due to it's condition, clean it up and make a buck on it I would go get it. It's double sided with some kind of frame around it and their asking $1500 open to offers. Then in researching to find out what it might be worth I see it on ebay for $1300.

Not worth anywhere near that in my books.

Not even close to worth that. You can spray WD-40 on them and it will bring some of the color back up but not a bunch, like they said once there gone there gone.

I agree, Feed wax works great to make old signs display better.
But it doesn't make the sign worth three times it's worth!!

Thanks
Mike

Do you mean the howards feed wax that is for hardwood floors? That was all I saw on their website?

That stuff is the best. I have a sign that was milky white and after a dose of Howards 2 years ago it is still vibrant blue .

Thanks for the clarification, I am going to have to try it out. Does it work on tin as well or just stick to porcelain?

works on weathered tin signs also. I think if their is something that needs a shine or simple cleanup, that is the stuff to use.

I have an old tire sign outside that had that chalky look from age that I put a coat on every spring and it looks great and seems to keep it from getting worse.

Thanks
Mike
