I went to the PPG dealer and forgot my Collectors guide book so i remembered you guy's talking about fleet books. I found they now have the fleet books on computor so they looked up Texaco (pump) red.
Got it DBC78029, came home sprayed it and it is a dark orange!I know the Texaco red in the book is differant but would there be that big of a differance and why? Thanks in advance, John

John, the "fleet colors" listed on the computers are present/recent colors. The Texaco red now is different from the old color so there will be a differnce. I don't know about the color being orange though. It may not have been mixed properly. Always have the paint store open the can and show you the color they mixed.

John -

What you wound up with might be the currently-used red or it might be what the Company called "Matawan" red, back during their late-'60's/early-'70's "rehab" program.

See if you can find a book of Valspar paint colors. They were the last ones (as far as I know) to produce the true "TEXACO Red" which you are looking for (i.e., the color of the star in the old logo and, also, the color of FIRE CHIEF pumps). They (Valspar) has a "Colonial Red" on the market, today, which is awfully close.
