Dan, Lots 150-152 and 154-156 don't match the catalog description.

There has been some confusion about how to bid on this weeks auction on Friday.

If you want to just absentee bid you can use bidopia but if you want to bid live on the auction on Friday you have to use and sign up thought Liveauctioneers.com, invabluable or Morphy live.

If you do not understand what you need to do, call Morphy's at 717-335-3435.

You can call me at 217-259-7059 and hopefully I can help you. Dan

Thanks Dan for clearing that up. I thought the bidopia was the bidding site but it's for absentee bidding.
liveuctioneers.com is for bidding live!

Glad to know that as Friday right before the auction the couple of globes i wanted to bid on and couldn't would have been bad! I would have been cussing up a storm.

So why have 2 separate places like that? Seems like it would cause some major confusion for some including myself.

I just got to Peotone and dropped off my auction consignments, and Dan and his crew are busy at work getting things set up and ready. Theres a terrific selection of signs here, and I've already called at least 2 Old Gas members with the answers to their questions on different consignments!
Getting checked into my room and then going to head back over and take a second look. Seems like its always better to walk away and think about what you've seen, and then go back for another look. The second time around always seems to be more objective! LOL

You will have to get approval for the auction after registration. May have waited too long Steve.

I just gave up. I went over to Morhpy's site and used my Bidopia login.
On Livebidders I was just trying to create an account. But ever time I hit 'submit' it just took me back to the 'create an account' page.

Also, I dont see any way to scroll through the auction. It seems you can only view the lot on the block, 3 that have sold, and about 6 coming up.
So how do you go back through the lots to see what your favorite piece sold for?
I hate having my hand tied. On Proxi I can scroll through the entire catalog at any time.
I'm not a fan.

Went to liveauctioneeers and viewed all the sold items and other than rare items I thought the money that the signs and globes brought was about average.

just got back to my room... i thought pump plates went sky high, some globes went low, and signs were pretty average... just my 2 cents though. talked to at least 10 others at the auction and everyone was taming their bidding due to the buyers premium, seems like everyone accounted for it. Just as always though, was a great auction and not too much changed from the typical Matthews style... except a lot more staff on site now!

I watched the live auction for a while during the upper 300-400's lots and most of the globes weren't too crazy priced. Maybe they were running out of cash by then.

My Opinions on best items!
Best Sign:

Best Oil can (i am a bit biased on this one ):

Best Pump Plate/truck plate(clean and somewhat rare):

Best Globe:

Favorite Globe to me (well i bought it):

Again these are my opinions and what i liked. Nice variety in this auction to keep all happy. I watched the entire thing it was so interesting.

Dan

I find it was kinda funny that the single oilzum sold for 350 and the lot w/ the oilzum and texaco sold for 275. Both cans look to be in same condition.

Gotta love auctions. Lol

I wanted to see the final prices but to create an account they want to know everything about you. The only thing that is missing on the personal info is three witness and your parents permission. So, I'll have to ask my buddies.

To create an account on the "Invaluble' site, you only have to fill out the first and maybe it was the second page. Then hit cancel on the third page. That's what I did and it still created the account.

I agree Randy, Bruin flange!I thought most of the door pushes and oilbottles went pretty cheap, no? The nice Mobil carrier and 8 filpruf bottles-1300+ bump. Not too bad. I wish I had two nickles to rub together. lol

The Single can Lot was in much nicer condition which equals more $$$ plus it is the "Motor Oil" version which is harder to find then the "Americas Finest" version.

If you don't like the auction... Call Dan Morphy and tell him your issues. I plan on calling him next week... I didn't like the fact that bidopia was a site I signed up on and then when I wanted to bid I didn't know I have to go to another site which I used live auctions. I did like bidding from my cell phone! It was fast with no lag time.
The buyers premium didn't hurt the auction at all that for sure.

I think Dan and Jody and Wes did a great job on there first Morphy auction and dealing with changes. It will get better as they go.

Peotone auction was a good one , but for the first time in 20 plus years of collecting this stuff I got lied to my face from a fellow collector on agreeing to split a Red Hat globe and he ask if it went over $10,000 could we split the globe. Well I quit at $9500 and he kept on bidding. He won it and within 15 minutes he paid and left back to Wisconsin. I learned a lot on this, you can know and deal with a guy for years and then he looks you eye to eye and agrees to something then stabs you in the back.
Enjoy the globe Jim Covers

John,
I agree as well as many others do. A person is born with his word and he/she makes the decisions in their life to get greedy and to lie to people.
And I even bought some of your salt and pepper shakers Too !!

Regarding Redhat Globe at auction in Peotone. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding. In the 25 years plus I have been collecting globes, I have never split a globe and I am not starting now. You can ask Scott, Lonnie, Roger and Dan Matthews. I am only a complete globe buyer. I went to the auction to buy that globe and nothing else.

Sounds like you knew what you were doing all along. I guess some people will use any tactic to get what they want.

The one person you need to be apologizing to is Maurice. He's the one that it looks like got the short end of the deal.

JIM, THERE FIVE PEOPLE THAT HEARD YOU TELL ME WE SPLIT AFTER $10,000. AND SINCE MANY OTHER TOP OF THE LINE OLDGASSERS HAVE TOLD ME THEY HAVE ALL BEEN **** BY YOU AND NEVER TRUST YOU ON ANY DEAL. SO JIM I WILL GO AFTER ANY REDHAT GLOBE THAT YOU MIGHT TRY TO GET AND JIM MY STACK IS ALOT HIGHER THAT YOURS. SO ENJOY MY HALF AND REMEMBER YOUR NEXT ONE WILL COST YOU OVER $40,000 AND YOU CAN REACH THAT! AND WHAT EVER YOU DO DO NOT EVER COME AROUND ME
