Yes, it is the same sign. Anybody have a picture of a sign like this one or knows somebody that has one? I have never seen this sign in any book or anywhere else. How do you price something so RARE? Will be listing it on ebay January 1, 2014.

So far I have established for the record that there are 4 of these signs out there. rafter6 and his friend each have one. DuceCpe has one and I have one. Does anybody else have one and can provide a picture?

There are thousands of more collectors that don't visit or know of Oldgas. You can't rate rarity on who has one on Oldgas.

That's the first one I have seen .I called a good friend of mine that has been a life long collector and attends a lot of auctions and asked him. Flat signs is all he can recall , no die cut clovers . I bet your right thermoman , instead of thousands there were only hundreds made....... That would be a great sign to add to ones collection .

Dick, you make a good point. But prof is in the numbers, The holders of the items in all the ads with women in them seem to get more looks or interest. We may laugh but as you put it earlier for what sells is correct. I would put it on ebay also or do as a lot of sellers are now doing go with a large auction company close to the border.

I have seen several of these over the years at shows...Just because you havent seen an item before, doesnt mean its rare!
I wouldnt have paid 3K for it....Its a Large 1500 dollar sign in my opinion...Did you buy it OR are you selling it for them???
Its funny how other pickers make fun of your price increase smile When they are doing EXACT same thing...LOL

Anytime you here someone say " its only one in existence" or....."there are only a handful left". You should multiple that number by 100, and you will be closer to true amount of items left in the world.

I own several rare neons but would never want to claim I have the only one around. Here is a set of Firestone letters I own that I think there aren't many of but I know I did see a set at Hershey. I had them quiet a while and traveled over a thousand miles to see them but I now know theres at least two. Oh by the way I've seen three of the shamrock signs in Texas.

Great sign Kevin! There are many one of a kind signs out there. Not this one we know. But to say there are 100 more on all signs is no way correct. I have had many and still have many signs that are very small production numbers.Good luck on your sale.Mark

OK, so how do you rate rarity?
What exactly is rare?

Even in the era of almost instantaneous information and infinite opinions, it is like value- It is still subjective. The only way it is not subjective is to have verified production information from ALL production sources. Now, that is rare. Most things said to be "rare" generally should be labeled "scarce" (noting that regardless of how many were produced, not many are to be found).

Opinions (mine included) are neither and quite often are of dubious value.

some good points here.......I have rarely seen this sign however that does not make it rare...I would bet that there a few more out there than we think.....kz100 said it well , there are many many collectors out there so we have no way of knowing how many are actually in existence....with that said, its a great sign and if you like it, thats all that matters......

I have a friend who buys and sells and I finally taught him to price his stuff high, using the logic "you can always go down on the price, but you can't go up." This blows the hell out of that lesson.

Reminds me of a builder in Los Angeles building a spec house before the bubble burst in the late 80's. Every week he would print new brochures raising the price of the house by 100K. After several trips to the printer he got tired of it and finally just began marking through the last printed price and penciling in his current one.

Just today I sold my daughters loft bed on Craigslist.
3 weeks ago I listed it for $76.
Last week I raised the price to $86.
I raised it again 3 days ago to $99.

They picked it up today for the $99.

. It for sure is a great privilege we have to sell for free , e bay is aggravating . I only buy a few things , tried selling once and did not care for their outlandish fees. The shamrock sign is cool ! Thumbs up!

I find eBay is a greedy mega-corporation that is completely out of touch with its customers and I'm glad oldgas separates itself from them as much as possible. That's not to say those that sell shouldn't consider voluntarily help to keep the lights on here.

signgod2112, this thread has gotten off a little of you trying to sell your awesome sign, and I apologize for my part in that. I would consider your sign rare by every definition and I see no problem with you (or anybody else) investing your own money on something you feel was underpriced. If you're wrong, enjoy your bath, if your right, enjoy your rewards.

There was one on highway 83 near Colorado Springs at the "shamrock" farm or something like that. Somebody stole it a few years ago. I have seen 3 or 4 others in Colorado collections. If yours sells lets us all know. I love the sign.
