A few pictures from Friday. This is a large market that is on the Labor Day weekend every year. I only walked for a few hours. I use to spend three days there but the market has changed over the years. I enjoyed the ride, the yard sales along the way and running into over a dozen friends.

One of the main reasons I go to Hillsville is to see all the new fake and fantasy stuff that is out there. Tons of it shows up at this market. Some is really good. I ran into a friend on the way down there and he showed me a sign he had paid good money for. I hated to tell him it was a fake. It's a hard way to learn but we all have.

How has it changed? I'm assuming it smaller now since you don't spend nearly the time you used to?

It is a very large show with lots of walking up and down hills. I have lost interest over the years because there is so much flea market stuff there and repro's and less and less antiques.
The over all attitude of the dealers. The asking prices are high and when you make a reasonable offer that reflects the true market value for the condition they act as if you have insulted them.
Years ago I use to find some good deals there and I am sure if I spent more time and looked hard I could find some things but in five hours of walking I only thought of offering on one item, and I changed my mind after listening to the dealer talk with another potential costumer.
I talked with a friend last night that had set up and he said it was the best year he had ever had. I talked with several friends who have said they enjoyed the show but found very little, nothing to speak off. There seem to be a lot more empty spaces every year.
The weather can be a real factor at this show as well.
Dan , Instead of a five hour drive south, I would go the other way and go north three or so hours to Adamstown Pa. to Renningers . I have found lots of good stuff there.

Just looked up Renningers in PA. Looks like it's every Sunday throughout the summer.?. I had never heard of it.

They have an extravaganza several times a year. You have to go early. By noon its over. People are there with flashlights at 4 am.
There are also two other markets within a mile and about thirty antique shops.
