Just sharing a Pennzoil sign my Mother In Law gave us this week when we were visiting. (My wife's father worked for Pennzoil.)She has two of these oval "Sound Your Z" signs and another "Sound Your Horn, We'll Open" sign. She decided to give one to each grandchild (one being my 12 y/o son)and this is the one she sent with us. The one pictured below is the two sides of the same sign. It is dated 7-54 and has a red bell on one side and a yellow one on the other. Not the best condition, but can't be choosy!

The other Sound Your Z sign is dated 67 and has a red bell on both sides. Just a difference in the style by year?

Good looking signs with some interesting family history. Looks like they will clean up nicely. Wash them with car wash detergent and then apply some car wax.

Thanks.
The two pictures above are the two sides of the same sign.

There is another like it, but the bell is red on both sides.

Reds colors are notorious for fading. The red has faded on the one side due to being in direct sunlight.

Dave, Are you saying that both sides used to be red but the red has faded completely away on the one side?

I'm pretty sure, I have six different oval DST Pennzoil signs and both sides have the same identical logo.

Not aware of a company promoting two different logo's on the same sign before.

Fading would make sense.
Sorry, what does "DST" stand for?

Wow! I just didn't know the red could fade so bad that it would be gone. Interesting!!

These are the other two that stayed behind.

I thought about hanging the Pennzoil sign outside, but with the paint loss that it does have I'm afraid it will just start to rust more.

I also came home with a neat little "Titusville Iron Fireman" sign that I posted in the Non-petro section. It's from that PA oil region, but obviously not petro.

Cool sign and even cooler story!! In my opinion, you should hang the tin signs inside, and the porcelain ones outside. Just a thought...
