Getting there That early is only good if your dragging a Boat [for a Moderator] full of Oranges & want a good parking space. Even then, you won't be the 1st one there!

I will be there Tuesday morning for my 5th IG trip, this year with my Dad for his first trip to IG. Can't wait my money is starting to burn a hole in my pocket!!!
Make Sure to Bring Rare Graphic One Quart Oil Cans!!!!!
***Wanted*** Always looking for Oilzum, Kunz, and Husky Cans, Signs and Smalls.
Katfish, By-Pass IG & head for Devils Lake. Wave at Kevin on the way, but he will be headed SSE. The WARDEN is having a $1 Sale to clean out Shop/Garage/Storage areas!
I should be there Tuesday afternoon and hope this year to stop just looking at all the cool stuff and put some names to the faces even though my name/face/memory sucks!! Have a safe trip everyone.....
I'll be all over Iowa the week before on the Ragbrai bicycle ride following a bunch of crazy bikers in the motor home. The ride is over saturday so im gonna hang around for the show. If I can find a good place to park the beast close to the show I will be there Tuesday afternoon in it. If I have to stay in a campground somewhere outside of town I guess I'll have to hitchhike to the show. It's my first year. What I wanna know is how you tell an Oldgasser from just a plain guy with gas.....?...GB
They look like young/old girls that have to Pee Really Badly running around w/ CASH in Both Hands asking everyone DUMB questions "How Much Ya Want". Most/Some items will be Clearly Marked, but they will ask anyway!
Thought you told me it was the Ragbra bicycle ride! Not Ragbrai LOL
We'll be there Tuesday afternoon along with Wesley the dog. Yes, he's still with us and turned 16 this past Monday. I've got a fabulous Royal 400 Red Hat sign, restored, but really really nice. Any interest email me at hotcidr@cox.net
Don't forget you all have a research project to do for me. I hope you can find a thermometer that goes high enough and someone who is willing to loan it to you.
Nicole p.s. Mick, make sure DB drinks plenty of water and Gatoraid, and just water for Bella!
Thanks for the link to the picture Dick. If anyone wants to know how to recognize me, I'll be the schmuck walking around looking at a picture in my hand running in to everything!!
Had the Old '99 Dodge PU truck serviced at Rob's Honda Repair Shop yesterday & it ran fine on the way home. HOPE the Rice Burner parts that were installed Holdup for the Long Haul to/from IG! I HOPE to be there Tuesday as well, NOT STOPPING IN OMAHA [don't have anymore *** to LOOSE!]
Whooo..hoooo... Dbs gonna make it!! Not like i really give a damn, but I know Bella's gonna be one happy pug!!lol! Seriously..glad your gonna make it ,you add a certain touch to every Iowa show you attend! . Lol!!,!! So looks like people arriving early so how about the Iowa /oldgas pic on Wednesday at high noon?i Lets see if we can get a record number this time! Over on the north side of the parking lot, near"da shade" I'll bring a cold case,Larry's got a warm one,and if you want milk,ya have to get it at the concession stand!
See ya there!

Used to live in Iowa and I missed this? It sounds like a hoot, melting on the tarmac with all these characters I've come to know in print. It would be nice to put faces to names and attend the show as well as the Matthews auction. All the action will be hot-and humid!!However its not to be for me this year. I sure would have loved to meet DBs pug Bella being a dog guy but does Bella really smoke? Fred
Fred,Bella belongs to me and my wife maria. .the black pug is one of several that db has had,but has passed on.Bella has kinda adopted Dick, and she's one of the few things that can make him smile ear to ear! Lol!

Well I knew the avatar dog wasn't Bella, different coats. It's tough being a dog guy you wish the good ones would last a wee bit longer. Have a great show and make sure you get picture of all the attendees- including Bella and put it up on OG. Fred
In 2011, there was a lot of suspicious activity in the hotel parking lot! These photos were captured by the Warden and discreetly shown to me, where as I immediately decided to expose the perps! One of the perps even had some "crack" showing! Last photo shows one of the perps fleeing the seen after being spotted! As to this date, these clowns haven't been publically identified, although several pug dogs went wild when shown the photos! Theres a lot that happens at IG!!

I will be rolling in Tue morning after 1700 miles of picking all the way there from CA. Every year I show up with a loaded truck and trailer some junk and some treasure. Looking forward to another great show!
See you there, Rob
PS the guy on the scooter looks somewhat familiar to me. LOL

I'll be there Tuesday with a bunch of stuff and a Wayne 60 barn fresh, was still hooked up to tank and electricity. check out buys of the week a couple weeks ago and it is pictured there, cant wait.
I'll bring more Lemons IF someone will talk Tara into ANOTHER Homemade PIE [in there Room!]. HEY, She did it Once & Mick supplied the Homemade Sausages!
Whoa! If it holds true, this could be the coolest Iowa gas I've ever been to!,,,
The first year I went 2009 the weather was very similar to this. I remember because the guys I went with that year said they don't ever remember it being that comfortable temp wise as long as they had been going. And they had been going to IG for the previous 15 years.
***Wanted*** Always looking for Oilzum, Kunz, and Husky Cans, Signs and Smalls.
Our weather guys have trouble sometimes predicting a few days ahead, let alone a whole week, but more than two weeks ahead? Don't believe it, plus if it's true, how can you and DB do the PTP triple digit measurements?
Arriving Tues afternoon after 3 weeks of taking youth bowling photos and arriving home Sun. Making a little bit, what I don't leave at the casino I would like to find some cool graphic tin signs. Peal em off the wall and bring em to the show!!!
Real Wisconsin cheese curds?(not that cellophane wrapped junk they sell down here in the flatlands) you bet! Ok..so I'm def bringing some homemade polish sausage(already cooked,I ain't gonna BBQ in the parking lot) peaches,if they are ready, and a case of cold miller Lites ..now the catch.... These will be available for consumption at the oldgas picture on Wednesday ,high noon at " da shade" who else is in and bringing consumables.?(ps,don't tell Ryan,or there may not be enough!)
Looking for gas,oil related clocks, especially neon and spinners .clock repair available. Mick
being this is my 11th year and we have always stayed up the street (by Bennigans- Motel has changed names too many times to name it now) I will put Some Cheese curds and crackers in Tankers (John Hudson) room #110 for you to try.
I have never used them as bait Dick so I have no clue!!
Cool! I love cheese curds!! I get them from a little Mobil station in Westfield Wisconsin on the way to the cabin.they got the best.. But... I never, ever buy them there in the winter! ( or anywhere else up by the cabin, for that matter). Kudos to the person who can guess exactly why! And I loved the "cheese curd song". Them packer fans got talent!!!( oh,boy...now I done it!!..) LOL!!!!

Received my conformation of vendor spots today and saw that they are doing a major construction project adding on to the building North Side, right now doing demo. This year might be a little different and hectic. Many vendor spots like where Racecop and Kiethia set up are off limits. They will have other spots set up on the other side of the building like old times.
Actually Rob it looks more like a loss of parking spaces outside the vending areaI think the primary area lost is where the one guy always sets up his large truck/trailer and large signs

That would be Florida Mike, baggy pants looks like he has Been on the road forever. Sold him my Frontier Sign years ago, DOH
We will still be in our normal spot this year. Next year we will be relocated someplace. Come see us. I hope we can get our trailers in with the construction.
Drive with Care and Buy Sinclair!! I buy Sinclair globes, signs, cans, ect.
To Heck with Rick! I'm going to have all my work done by this clown that I met last year at a Cajun restaurant in Des Moines! He claimed to be the "KING". Of what, we weren't able to figure out???

I'm making my first trip to Iowa Gas. Planning on driving up Tuesday and gong to the show on Wednesday. What time should I get there Wednesday morning? Or should I get there Tuesday and look around and try to buy? Hate to ask dumb questions but don't know what to expect.
Show up on Tuesday if you can, the earlier the better. Tuesday normally sees a lot of sales, Wednesday has people out on the parking lot in the morning with flash lites looking for deals. Thursday normally starts out slow as people were out in the sun all day the day before.
Hey Railroad Joe, I was just in Cabot and Little Rock, Daughter lives there, There are some cool signs in that area, couldnt find anybody home before I had to leave, maybe next trip..Frank
Thanks for the info sounds like I need to leave on Monday. Look me up next time frank there are a couple of antique stores by my house that have gas and oil stuff.

So, been there many times. where do they have great food? Not the Hotel! something across the parking lot to the south, Bennigans maybe? Not great. Ideas? I'll go with you and buy the first round!
About 1/2 mile north is Skip's ? A really good bar & grill. A few blocks south is Johnys Italian Steakhouse. A higher end chain that has nice steaks and Italian dishes. If you go downtown, hit Racoon River Brewing for some micro brews and sandwiches.
It has really been nice here the last few days. Almost cool and no humidity. Highs in the mid 70's and low in the 50's. Forecast is for highs in low to mid 80's and lows in the 60's for IG.
Drive with Care and Buy Sinclair!! I buy Sinclair globes, signs, cans, ect.
Drove by the show site today on my way to the airport to pick up my rental car. No signs of petro life, just a few barricades in the lot.....mmmmm, sausages look good Mick!
Wow!!! All of you who are either already there or on your way have to be jonesing like a kid on Christmas Eve!!!!! Man I can't wait to go to this show one of these years!! Can't wait till the pics start rolling in!!
Steve Coppens Always interested in Sunoco items! Really want a Sunoco National pump ad glass!!
Unfortunately work won't allow me to leave until tomorrow afternoon but I will be there Thursday AM and have plenty to sell from the room. Bringing an unrestored Wayne 80 with a Conoco N-Tane script Top. Good shape. Lots of smaller signs. Sinclair Globes - Very rare Sinclair Kerosene, 2-Diesels, and some of the newer globes. 2- 66" sign rings. Can't wait to be there. God bless and safe travels for everyone. Mike
Show was supposed to start tomorrow, Wed but it was and is in full tilt all day today. Weather is cool but some rain on the way. Even the inside vendors are set up today. I haven't bought anything yet but tomorrow is coming
Guys, if you see OsloSteve (Steve Jenson) at the show please relay this message. Contact John at 315 427 5094 regarding bringing my item back east. Thank you, Brian
Hey where's Bella? She would've spruced up that motley crew! I've spent a few summers in Iowa-those guys are lucky the weather is enjoyable. It's usually around 100 F and 100% humidity. Let's see some of the loot and make us home boys and girls jealous. Envious in Calgary Fred
I got home from Iowa Gas last night and am back to work today. I wish I was still there. I gotta get back to work to get back the money I spent out there. I had lots of fun and got to meet some new people.
I have never made this show, only been collecting for about 8 years or so. I am curious why so many people leave before the auction?
The show was over before we got there at around 3pm on Tuesday. I am not sure what I am going to do next year, maybe get there on Sunday and leave on Wednesday AM?
Ryan I think Iowa gas is an awesome show but I have to say I like cto better for the reason you posted above. At cto they say the show starts this day and time and that's when it starts no early bird.
Originals only for me. Always looking for Simpson oil, Super A, and MFA oil cans and globes. Shawn Morris
