I found this letter behind a picture today. It is my grandpas letter of recommendation for Maintenance Super in 1943. What a great father's day present to my dad and I. He had never seen it before either and he is 77. It is getting matted. Hope you Standard guys like it (Looks like he made $173 for a 44 hour week, haha

That was really good pay I think! Bob's father was making $100 every week after taxes as a plasterer for the D.C. government in the late 50's.

Today pops and I went through his little keepsake drawer at his house and he gave me these so I thought I would share as they go along with the other letter I found. Here is a pic of his 30 years pin and his 20 year pin that my dad had made into a ring after his dad had passed in 71'. Also are letters and signatures of the big dogs the old man said back in the 50s to my grandpa thanking him for 30 years of service. Hope you guys enjoy as I cherish these items and so will my future generations. I hope you guys find items such as these to complete the circle also,Thanks for looking,Marc (The signatures on the letters are from F.O. Prior, Chairman of the Board of Standard Oil of Indiana/ John E. Swearingen, President of Standard Oil of Indiana/ and H.J. Hilliard, Manager Operations Division,Minneapolis

Another piece of the puzzle I am working on. My grandfather installed all the equipment in this station along with doing some of the brick work. Not many of these old stations still around so I am thrilled that one gramps helped with still stands. 18th and Minnesota,Sioux Falls,SD. IF and when I win the lottery I will buy the whole block! smile Never hurts to Dream! It has been a video rental, coffee house, sandwich shop, head shop, phone store, and now it looks like she is a casino smile. Why don't these small cities see the historical significance to these old buildings and restore to their former glory? Might have to give them a jingle soon smile.
