Is it difficult to restore a pump to complete working condition? Who could I ask more about this? Thanks for the help.

Hi jeakle4,

You might want to contact a local member of PEI , Petroleum Equipment Institute. They are the most knowledgeable guys on working gas dispensing hardware.

One of our Oldgas.com Web clients is PEI member Benford Fueling Systems. You can post a message on their gasoline equipment forum at: http://www.benfordfueling.com/fueltech/00a/
Maybe they can offer some advice.

I have restored visible pumps to working conditions. Usually you need to soak the leathers or replace them. Sealing the bottom of the cylinder can be a trick. I didn't use the original sealant which was litharge. Call me in the evening at 651-653-6503 if you need more help. I would remind anyone planning to actually pump gas with a visible to check with their insurance company. You may find that they cancel you if you use it! Ron Scobie

I was just wondering, how dangerous were visible pumps when they were in operation? In their heyday were they considered to be a fire hazard?
