I emailed this seller about the fantasy plate hes trying to sell on ebay for a small fortune and I explained very politely that it was a decorator piece that Vics 66 sells for $18!
His item is ebay# 171043813372

Here is his answer--Quote: "They were used pre 1920s in the curb side 5 gal cap wayne pumps".

I don't believe we will ever win this battle of the repops because of the mindset of the uninformed! The problem is here and isn't going away but I'm going to keep on fighting anyway!

So glad I found this site. For years I have been fighting with people on eBay about the authenticity of product and I thought I was the only one. I kept thinking "I wish I had a way of getting this out and stopping these people".

Still, the problem is threefold .

1. People refuse to accept the facts when they are shown the truth .

2. ALL THE SALE sites refuse to accept us as knowledgeable as to the authenticity of a product

3. People knowingly buy this stuff and then wail to us even though we warned them !

John, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on which "side of the street; one is standing on), none of us as Collectors have the power to stop the selling of "non original" items!..

As Collectors, we can do what Kevin, Diane and hundreds (thousands) of other Collectors do... We can notify the Seller.

The technique one uses to notify a Seller can at times bear fruit... The nicer one is, hopefully the more receptive the other person will be to listen... But, if the Seller has dropped a bundle on a fake or is looking to make a bundle on a fake... One can talk until they turn "blue in the face" and "the cows come home" and it will not make a bit of difference...

With the 'net... It is now much easier to "deceive" the Public! And as we all have seen; Much more profitable!!!!!!...

So it is imperative that one be "on their guard" at all times... For me my gut is my "gauge"... If an item doesn't "feel" right... I pass it by... I have lost out on a few items, but in the long run, I am way ahead of the curve!!!!!

Well somebody got to him he ended the listing. So now he needs to be told about the shell and skelly. I mailed him someone else should also.

Bob,
I fully agree. When I see this happening I message the person and try as nicely as possible to inform them. I usually try to lead them into figuring out on their own by presenting evidence but it rarely works. HAHA
MY frustration was the inability to warn others, especially new comers to the craft. Not that I know all, believe me I don’t. But, I have taken some bad beats over the years and hate to see someone make the same mistake I made.

The only thing worse then a repro is a repro that has made its round through collections being passed off as original and gaining credibility and age as it does.

Yes he did, and that is commendable, unless it was ebay that took it off? I also sent him a message about the Skelly and Shell and they are still in place?
