Noah I take the face plate off and cut the pipe as close as I can, with a saws all. Then after you pull the computer you can get to it to remove the fittings from the top.

ok, I had to cut of the piece of metal that turned the gears in the computer, I hope that was a good decision. I will try and cut the pipes out tomorrow.
Thanks Noah

If you are talking about the coupling from the pump up into the computer, yes, it is fine to cut. As many members as there are from your area, why don't you try to find one close enough to give you some assistance (maybe a Saturday or two). It could be a great bartering situation for them, and a great learning opportunity for you. Some more experienced input might help keep you from mistakes or getting frustrated. Fun to see your enthusiasm!

here are some pics of my pumps. I don't have a pic of the top, but I will get one later. How does the electrical work? The pump in the first pics, has the really bad rust. I am restoring the small pump first, and then the big one. I am not sure if I should take out the part that is in the last pic.
Thanks Noah

here are some pics of my pumps. How does the electrical work?
Thanks Noah Noah, You look like you have a good start. The electrical has to be all re-wired you can get the parts you need at a local hardware store. You will have to remove the whole light manifold and there should be a switch (junction box) that is on the conduit. This would be an on/off switch. I would suggest you redo all the wireing you don't have to but you run the risk of faulty electrical otherwise. If I can figure it out I am sure anyone can. I'll post some pictures later to try to help.

It would be a pain to make the pumps work. And yes, it is allot of work, I got the little pump gutted in about 30 min. I am going to try and gut the big pump right now, I will post pics and keep all ya'll posted. I am just going to display them. I think most of the people that do pumps just use them for display. Thanks for all the help.
Thanks Noah

Looks like you are off to a great start Noah . If you need any parts for the red 996 I might be able to help. I did not see your doors or hinges but just a tip, you need to test fit those doors and hinges and if they do fit mark them to the correct side and door. If the doors when closed don't have equal and even gaps or have alignment issues like binding address this before you go any further . If those doors have ever had a pry bar put on them and the hinges were froze the hinges most likely will be stretched and sprung and have lost their original s shape curvature and can be a real headache ,as they are not reproduced to my knowledge , I know this because this happened to the 996 I restored and I had to heat and bend on them in a vise then reassemble this disassemble for two weekends until I got them right . And it wasn't fun. Just trying to save you some grief ,Keep us posted.
