Anyone know if there is a big difference in the original texaco fire chief signs and the reproductions that are out now. I know some are a little smaller but I can get the correct size with the same hole pattern. Just wondering if they pretty much look the same. Thanks, Dean

Good morning Dean, if you would look over in showcase under pump plate of the month you will find that there were different sizes , I don't collect many pump plates But Ted does . and others can answer your question ,a lot of the guys work so it might take a while ,

I'VE TAKEN ORIGINALS OFF PUMPS AND SCREWED REPOPS IN THE SAME EXACT HOLES.. THOSE ARE THE ONES I GOT FROM VIC'S PLACE.. I DON'T KNOW WHAT BRAND THEY ARE?? ASK SETH MAYBE?? THATS ALL I KNOW.. FRANK..

I've had no trouble remounting repo signs to the original holes. That is the 12"x18" version. It never hurts to place them over the holes before you start your restoration though. Original signs are dated in the bottom corner. I believe repo's are also (don't have one handy right now and my memory is failing), but the repo's will have a much newer date.

IF A TEXACO SIGN HAS A DATE OTHER THAN 03-?? ,IT IS A REPO.. ALL SIGNS WERE DATED O3 THEN A YEAR FOR SOME REASON.. DOES ANYBODY KNOW?? 03-63 IS ORIGINAL.. 04-63 IS FAKE.. ETC.....

I have a lot of Texaco pump plates. Some repops more originals. The originals as far as the basic 12 x 18 are just like the repops but the dates at the bottom would tell the difference. These plates are the early Sky Chief black on bottom the later Sky Chief supercharged with petrox and the fire chief. I haven't seen the 22 1/2 inch Sky Chief, Marine plates or Diesel plate repops. That doesn't mean they aren't out there. So if you just want a basic pump with plates that are there just for looks and it doesn't matter to you go for the repops. I started with repops and told myself that was fine but later got the sign collecting bug for originals and out went the repops. Frankie as far as dates all the repops I've seen have a new date like 90 never heard of that 03 thing. Yes the repops in 12 x 18 mount right up. Ted

I have an original Texaco Fire Chief 12x18 sign on ebay right now and a rare Diesel Chief sign that I have not posted yet. Both are in great condition painted porcelin. Let me know if you want any pics or the item # on ebay I will be selling both soon.

while we are on the topic of firechief signs why do some have date on left bottom and others on bottom right??? i am just guessing that the ones with date on bottom left are older ?? just guessing thanks cggas

I have every Fire Chief sign size and pretty much date they made. The older ones did have the date on the opposite side of the newer ones and with one version they usde a hyphen in between. I don't have them in front of me now but that is the way it is. Ted
