No duties, but you will have to pay 12 percent sales taxes on the total value of the pumps if coming into BC.

I would call Canadian Customs were you want to go in and ask questions they will inform you of what needs to be done. More than likely you will have to get a broker to import those pumps if you are in the business of selling. Then each Province has set fees that will apply as Dave said.

Have them meet you before the border. Coming back with stuff no problem, but going is like the 5th degree if you are going in with pumps and you are from US.

It is better for the buyer to return home with a purchased item then a seller to cross into another country with items for sale.

Here is what you need to do !
(1)He needs to prepare an invoice with full description of goods, value and country of origin He can clear Customs himself at the border.
(2)There's no duties on gas pumps.
(3)There will be a 5% tax
Hope this helps

You don't need a broker but it would sure make things easier but also costly. The forms needed are on the internet and the computers at customs for your use. http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/menu-eng.html

Sid When a British Columbia resident returns home with items made in the USA. There will be a federal tax and provicial tax. Total 12% The same tax would have been applied if the buyer purchased the pumps in BC. Other provinces have other tax rates.

Trifiver, your broker is mistaken. Doesn`t matter whether a Canadian imports an item into Canada or an American exports it. The tax collected is 5% (federal goods & services tax) plus the applicable provincial sales tax which happens to 7% in BC. The provincial sales tax varies from province to province.
If an item is to be left behind (imported into Canada) then both taxes will be applied irregardless of who brings it across the border.

This is a fact ,
At time of import Customs do not collect provincial tax, only the 5% GST.
But if he sells the product in BC, he would charge his customer 5% GST plus the provincial tax

That`s where you are mistaken. He is not registered to collect the PST (provincial sales tax) and therefore can`t collect it. He has no way of remitting the tax to the provincial government. Customs collects the GST and PST at the border to ensure the PST portion is collected and remitted to the government.
I have had sellers deliver items to me and they (American) had to pay both taxes at the border. I am speaking from experience and not what someone has told me based on their interpretation of the tax law.
Tulareone you will be required to pay both taxes at the border.
