My class and I just finished up this Fry 117 for the Ag Teacher here at school. This pump sat on his family farm since it was new back in the 1920's. All of the parts on this pump are original except for the cylinder, globe, hose, nozzle, gate valve handle, and price box.
The wooden handle is also newly made by one of the boys in class. He used a very fancy piece of Claro Walnut on it.
The Fry logo plate is the original that has been repainted by hand.
I think the students in my class did an amazing job on this pump. They spent many, many hours sandblasting and metalworking the panels and cast pieces. One student was our "polishing expert" and did a fantastic job on the brass. We sent the interior pipes out and had them nickel plated.
The students all absolutely love this pump because of how it looks and how it works. The gravity feed really amazes them. Now we have to figure out how to get the dang thing back to the owners farm!
P.S. The Erie 71 my class is working on has been blocked, reassembled for fit, and is in the process of being painted. It is getting very close to completion and I hope to post it on here in a month or so. NO parts, materials, or supplies that have been donated to that project were used on this Fry 117. The owner financed the whole project himself.

Those young men in your class will have learned skills and disiplines that will carry them for a lifetime! I'm very impressed by what your class has been able to accomplish. Craftsmanship and quality of work seems to be a dying thing. Thank goodness there are a few young men in the world that care to learn these traits! Congratulations!
