I have a Mobilgas Special top that is porcelian. I have tried mobil paint codes and computer matching but I think there will be a noticeable difference between the porcelian top and painted sides. Was this top originally on a pump that had a porcelian body? What should I do to make this look right?

Hello,
Have you painted you sides yet? If not I can repair any bad porcelain and refinish the whole pump at the same time and I garuntee that you will not see the repairs or tell a diference in the color maybe just a slight differnce in the texture of the porcelain. I have repaired a few porcleain pumps and signs and had pretty good results with the method I use. Call me if you are interested I can either tell you how to do it yourself or I can do it for you.

I bought a mobil script top pump a few
months ago. The lid was porcelain coated.
I had the same problem you are experiencing.
In my opinion the shade of orange porcelain on the lid is a brighter orange than mobil
red/orange. I took the lid to a ppg paint
retailer. The guy helping me took a paint
scanner called the "Prophet" and scanned
the top. The "Prophet" spit out a paint
formula to match the lid. He mixed up a
small batch of the paint and it matched
the lid perfectly. I must emphasize that
my script top lid is porcelain coated and
seems to me to be slightly off from what I
believe to be mobil red. If you would like
the formula it is as follows.
PPG DCC acrylic urethane
CUMULATIVE PARTS
DMC900 27.8 27.8
DMC903 35.0 7.2
DMC917 155.9 120.9
DMC909 357.5 201.6
DMC907 1345.4 987.9

I had never used acrylic urethane before, the stuff is great compared to enamel. I'll never use enamel again. My porcelain
lid matches the doors and sides of the
pump beautifully. I hope this helps.

Hello,
its goot to finally have a paintcode. I have asked this Q a qouple of times myself with no answer.
My follow up question is - istn't it in fact so that the Mobil red has changed over the years. If you look at oil cans, the red on pre-55 can is more red than a post-55, which is almost orange. Could be something about their change of company name from Socony Vacuum to Socony Mobil. Also the text changed to a more fat type serif.
Any input?

thanks
Claes
