Hi
I am looking for a few good posts about a sign or gas/oil item that were actually found burried in the earth. My personal best thus far was a original double sided John Deere Quality Farm Implements 1920's 4 leg version sign made by veribrite advertising co of Chicago, IL. I had bought and sold a couple single sided 3 leg deer signs previous to this and was very excited when came across this one. It was literally found buried a couple of inches below the surface near a old outbuilding at a local MN farm in the fall of 2012.
Once the sign was cleaned I was amazed of the nice condition on both sides. Needless to say, the sign did not last more than a day on ebay and was scooped up by a bigtime John Deere collector.
This sign was a true rare piece of advertising history found in the dirt - Left and forgotten long ago, it was a true burried treasure. I am sure that this was a once in a lifetime find, but it's that possibility that keeps my nose to the ground.
I would like to hear a few other once in a lifetimes if anyone has one...

It's not worth much...... just a small part of the corner of the flange was sticking up out of the ground.

The Chevrolet sign was found in my hometown dump many years ago, buried, folded over double and partially burned. You could not trade me a NOS one for it-when I was a kid delivering papers, I rode my bike by it every day. My other signs look dug, too, but I bought them that way.

I have too agree. I have some weathered signs hanging on a wall in my barn on weathered wood & they just look awesome. This just shows the you can display the rough stuff just as good as the good stuff

Thanks. I appreciate the ultra-nice and NOS and even have a few in my Barq's collection, but I do love signs with "character". The problem is, the price of those is escalating, too.
