Would you guys mind telling me about the Gear Oil machine? I picked it up today and was hoping someone had some insight about it. Year/how much it would go for. Is it the correct color? Anything missing?

I also included a pic of my water heater just for entertainment purposes. It was an eye sore in my garage all grey, so I tricked it out...a little.

Thanks. I spent right around $100 to make it look like that.

I'm really hoping someone can enlighten me on the gear oil. I hope it's a real item.

Anyone have a clue about the "Texaco Gear Oil pump"?

Is this what I might have, mine has just been painted the incorrect color? If you look to the right of the first gas pump I think this is it...

It does kinda look like it, only minus the top. Looks maybe like a trash can in the photo. Wouldn't a gear oil pump be back in the shop area? The can without a Texaco sign looks like a wash bucket for rags. Definitely has a crank handle, rollers & a rag hanging off the right hand side. Wish I could walk over & see whats in the shop! Bet that's where you would find your pump.

The top mechanical part would attach to a 35 Gal. (size ?). Green and white can.

...this is a grease/gear oil drum, with a pump mounted on top...when the drum was empty, it was discarded (or painted/decaled and used as a trash can or wash bucket, as evidenced by the old photo)...then you just opened another drum, put the pump on top, and so on...the drum isn't 'part' of the pump...

Well that solves this mystery. I'm going to paint it either solid Red or Greena and throw a Texaco sticker on it and call it done. It's still cool to me.

...or, just look for an original Texaco drum to put the pump on...they're not too hard to find, and inexpensive when you do...

The one with the crank handle and rollers is what some refer to as a "wringer barrel",or at least that is what we call them around here.It would be about half full or a little more with water. The water was used to rinse out a chamois cloth that had been used to wash a windshield, then the wringer rollers dried it out enough for the next car. That may be what is hanging on the side of the barrel;ready for the next car,

I th ink the barrel to the right of the first pump is for garbage and the other with the wringer is, as stated, for washing windows. The item that looks like it is above the barrell is the taillight of the car getting fueled.
