Ok,although this site is based on Petroliana ,there is still a lot of cool old stuff that can be found along the way. I asked Jim what he thought about this, and he agreed, there is a lot of neat stuff. So..I'm gonna start off a litlle thread with some signs and stuff I saw during my recent journeys. If enough interest is shown,I would hope we could find a volunteer host for this.it will include, old neon hotel, tavern, drug, and just about any type of old cool sign.maybe clocks, buildings, but things from the past.in the boonies or in the cities.i know most of us can appreciate just about anything that's retro Art Deco or....?.lets make it stuff you find from the 60s,50s or earlier!im not going to try and set guidelines, but you get the idea. And please,if you would like to host this thread, contact Jim,and let him know
Here's a few ideas of what I am talking about!

A very cool clock ,on a commercial building.

Another thermometer ,and great neon sign.even looks like it may have been a station at one time

Here's one that leads to nowhere!

And last( really glad I stopped to take this one.went in and got one of the best cinnamon rolls I have had in years!gooey)

Can't wait to get down to Chicago, and take a few for the next(hopefully) addition of non petro FATW!

I think this is a great idea. Thanks to Mick for kick-starting this. Too many of these great old signs and roadside architecture gems are being lost every year. Take a picture of them when you get your next chance. Send me a PM if you love this stuff and are interested in being the volunteer host for this feature.

Whats that little character on the roof of Olivers Bakery? The neck is too thick for ET, but it looks like he's got some Kool shades!

They don't have to be lost, I collect signs like this and try my dangdest to get to them before they get destroyed, many times I just don't find out soon enough, or the owner thinks its worth a ton of money and would rather garbage it than see it preserved somewhere.

Great stuff, Mick, that clock is awesome!

Wow. That Clover Farm sign is a old one. 1930's I would say. I used to have a IGA from the same era. We had a Clover Farm store and an IGA in the little town I grew up in. Now, no grocery stores.

Love this neon sign. And with a boat, motor and trailer on top, it makes it extra special. Neon looks great at night.

The building has a sign that says, "Check Cashing & Live Bait" so add gas, beer and boats, why does a guy need to go anywhere else? wink
