Got a sign the other day still has all the packing paper stuck to it. It's painted so I have to be careful

Any suggestions??

I've wetted down my NOS signs with a paper towel. And let it sit. You should start seeing the brown paper pop off. Don't pull or wipe at the sign. Just dab the paper with the wet paper towel and go slow. I've held the sign at a angle and the paper has slid off for me. Take a picture of the sign with the paper on it, if you sell it down the line then you have proof that is was NOS.
Hope that helps!

I've destroyed a couple trying to soak them-seemed to loosen the paint from the metal more than the paint from the paper. I'm also interested in suggestions. Jim

JimT,did you actually soak the sign in water, or did you just dab the paper?

Check with buytex2 (Rick)?. I bought a texaco sign nos years back from him and it was covered with paper. It turned out beautiful. Good idea about taking pictures too.

Hope this helps, Blacktee

These were some kind of medicine signs the way I remember-kind of schoolbus yellow with black writing and graffics.I suspect the guy I got em from had trouble too or he probably would of had the paper off. I started off gentle and went from there. It was really stuck on there. Now I'm a little gun shy when it's plastered on there.
