Hello All, I wanted to share with everyone a few pics of a can I received today and how it ended up displaying by the end of the evening. Sometimes you see cans on Ebay that the listing photos are terrible and the condition is hard to see. Some you think are junk and should be trashed, others you think you might take a chance on. Such was the case with this scarce 5 quart Mobiloil Gargoyle Arctic Special transition can. The original Ebay listing is number 300853620509 . The photos were poor, so I asked a question about the lines. The seller felt they were all scratches and stated the can had been cleaned and it was as good as it would get. I could faintly see in the pics what looked like whiter scratched areas, so I decided to take a chance and make an offer. I figured comparable Gargoyle 5 quarts sell in the $50 range so I made the offer which the seller accepted. I was hopeful when I received the can at work today as it looked like it might clean up nicely. I was going to ask if anyone else had had any luck cleaning this soiled yellowish layer off cans, but when I got home I thought I'd give my old stand-by Softscrub a try. I must admit I am extremely happy with how the can turned out! It took me 4 hours of VERY gentle cleaning with one finger and a small amount of Softscrub, just doing a half dollar size area at a time. I will say though at times I could see some of the black and red colors starting to get weak, so I would immediately wipe the can with a damp cloth and let it dry again completely before proceeding. This method may work for others, so thought I'd share a success story. This can rarely comes up for sale, in quart size or 5 quart size. I'm pretty sure the can is better than a $55 can now, but I'll always look at it and think how I received it and how it was brought back to life so to speak! It will have a good spot in my collection for all my years. Thanks for looking, Darin The first pic is how I received it, the second in process of cleaning, and the last two are each side of the can now.
