Some of you know and have met my son-in-law Tony. He lives in Boise, Id. with his wife and my three grandsons. He is now stationed in Afghanistan for a year, and is about to have his first holiday season away from his family. I would like him to know that he has an "Oldgas" family too that misses him. So, I'm asking the members here to join me in sending him "return home safely" Holiday wishes. I'm putting together a couple "care packages" to send to him between now and the holidays. Nothing big and heavy to restore, just little things to remind him of his love of all things petro. Photos, old match books, or gas station maps, or old sales brochures. Even a handwritten note, or a "found along the way" story. Something like that, that's not expensive, or real valuable to anyone other than someone who's away from what he loves, and who he loves. If you have anything you'd like to share, you can send it to me, or to him directly, which would probably be nice, as he'd have more cards to open. He's one of the good guys, and I worry about him, and miss him. His address is: John "Tony" White ATT: S-4 (AMMPS TEAM) FOB SHANK APO, AE 09364
Or, if you want to add anything to my package, my address is: Don Sherwood 184 Park Dr. Shady Cove, Or. 97539
I thank you, and I know that any correspondence would be appreciated by Tony and his family. Thanks again, Don "oltoydoc" Sherwood

I think this is a great idea. I'll see what I can come up with to include in your care package.
Thanks to Tony for his service!

You guys are awsome! Members here sent me an air meter book, gas pump tee shirt, sunoco sweatshirt, decals, photos, oil change stickers, match books, key fob, and even a cool thermometer. All of these to be included in my "care package" to Tony. Others contacted me, letting me know that they had sent items directly to him in Afghanistan. I'm pretty sure that he will be amazed when he opens the box. I also sent some old 1930's-40's gas station related magazines. Nothing too pricey, just some items that would help him pass the time, and part of a hobby that he loves. When each of his three sons were "potty trained", they were allowed to join their dad and granddad to "Roy Reeds" Gas Bash. A real treat for them to "hang with the guys", and fun to watch them try to wheel and deal to get an oil can just like their Dad. Of course they had plenty of help from the sellers at the bash, who wanted to make sure they were enthused youthful collectors. Those three lil' ones, are now 14,16 & 18. Time really flies. So, from me and my family, thanks for helping a real special guy mentally survive a really ***** assignment. Don "oltoydoc"
