I thought I would share some pics of another early McColl Bros oil can that I purchased just like Dave's in an earlier post. This contained Harness oil.I think this is when they were only in the oil business and had not yet started the Red Indian brand?????
Maybe late 1800's early 1900's?????

I believe you are correct- read on.. cool

The McColl-Frontenac Oil Company was an oil company based in Canada. It was created in 1927 as a result of a merger between two companies, McColl Brothers and Frontenac Oil Refineries. Shares in the new company were acquired by the Texas Company, and by 1941 it had acquired a majority ownership position of McColl-Frontenac. At that time, the oil company was rebranded as Texaco. McColl-Frontenac was known for its branding of its oil and products as "Red Indian".

IMO this can is from 1910-1915 era.

McColl-Anderson Oil Company formed in 1873 in Toronto, Ontario, and consisted of a refinery and a lubricating oil and grease facility. Sometime before 1897 the name was shortened to McColl Bros.

McColl Bros Limited grease tin and a cheque issued in 1896 for $22.26.I'm thinking that would be allot of $$$$$$ back then.

That cheque (American spelling Check) is really cool. I have one of those Vesta grease tins, they are also early tins (pre 1927.)

An early McColl Bros 'Lardine' 1 lb tin. I had always seen Lardine mentioned in a lot of the early McColl paperwork but never knew what it was used for until I got this tin last year. So axle grease was one of the products with that name. There are probably other greases with that product name. Looking at the invoice it looks like they sold it in all different sizes. Also included for Dave another Red Indian cheque. A neat paper piece. Cheers, Don.
