About 3 months ago, I was at an auction sale and spotted an old rusty and crusty radiator shell with a really neat old Willys-Whippet emblem on it! Since it was kind of a junky sale, I anticipated getting the radiator shell and copper radiator for next to nothing, and then I could sell the copper core and get the emblem really cheap! "WRONG" The darn thing brought over a hundred bucks and I thought at the time that some car restoration person must have bought it for a project he was working on. Well, I didn't think about it again because it was long gone, but I was out traveling the other day and happened to be in the area of an old picker that told me to stop by some time. I stopped and was able to secure a couple oil cans and miscellaneous stuff and asked if there was anything else. He indicated a large junk pile and said I should look through it. Right away I spotted the radiator shell from the summer sale, with the ID badge still in place! I grabbed it and asked "how much". He laughed and said it didn't matter as he had paid way too much at the summer auction because an old rival was bidding against him and he wanted to prove a point! We had a laugh over it and again I asked "how much" and he said "would 2 bucks be OK". I laughed and peeled out the 2 bucks and took my prize to the pickup with me! The grill shell had been forgotten about but the emblem had stuck with me and now I owned it! I was pretty cheezy the whole way home! I think I'll probably keep it forever! LOL Pretty neat little piece of history--I wish it could talk!

It is amazing how some items find us...almost like it was meant to be.
Hammer out the dents, weld some tabs for glass shelves and then paint the grille surround. Mount on the wall, place the glass shelves in it and display smalls in it.

Kevin,
You may know what an Overland Whippet looks like, but here's a photo of one a friend of mine owns.

That's a good idea for the shell. I too, would try to find a use for it rather than pitching it. Cool story by the way

Or ... You can turn it into something like this ... My longtime toy friend assembled this beauty for 40 years. He recently passed. He was 92. His friend bought it for $$$.

There's a lot of history (not to mention money) on that grille insert.

Thanks guys,I hope KW take my idea,it is easy to do and doesn't harm the shell(you use the exsisting holes to mount the wood shelf in it)everybody has smalls they can display in it!Also these have a LED light in the top to shine down through the glass shelves.
