Nice collection Lyle. You have a lot of oval globes, so they must be a specialty collection for you. Can you enlighten me on the oval Mobilgas globe please? I've never seen or heard of one previous to your post. I see the Made in USA marking at the bottom, which I have a 13.5" globe with those markings. It's been discussed here that globes with that marking could A) be made for foreign markets, or B) something done by a certain lens manufacturer and nothing special. It's a great looking piece either way.
Thanks for any info you can provide to us,
Darin

hi darin,i found that lense on e- bay about 5 years ago.it came from South Africa.made the trip all the way here without getting broken.i was told the lense was made in the USA for certain overseas Socony-Vacuum marketing.the lense measures 16'' across and is in a glass body.i've never seen another like it.hope that helps,Lyle

Very neat piece Lyle....I normally stay away from foreign pieces, but if another came up for sale I might have to add that one to my Mobil collection!
Thanks for the reply,
Darin

Thanks so much for sharing your collection with us. Loved seeing your oval Zephyr globes.

The oval Mobil globe is a new one on me too. Cool! Lots of other great stuff too. Your son did a nice job on the pictures.

Thanks for sharing. Youve got some real nice stuff and its neatly displayed. Were the oval Mobil globes used on the cabinets after the Gargoyles? I guess they would probably say Mobiloil if they were.

Beautiful collection. I, myself found the Calif. highway 1 sign very cool. I was stationed at Fort Ord next to Monterey in the 80's and got to spend some time cruizin' sections of that road by motorcycle. Scenery to die for. Fort Ord's gone now, sadly and I can't fit my uniform anymore, but I'll bet the highway is still as great as always.
