I had put this sign on BOTW before I cleaned it but it turned out so nice, I had to show everyone! I tried just about all my tricks on this one with very poor luck! I washed it with soap and water and then tried Mothers Metal Polish on it but the stains were stubborn and didn't seem to want to budge! Using fine steel wool just left gray smears on the paint and a scotch pad was too abrasive---so what was I going to use? I normally won't use muriatic acid on painted surfaces but this was TOUGH paint and hadn't shown any wear from what I had done so far. I decided to try it in a small but dirty area first and if it ruined the paint, it would be in a small area! I applied the acid and left it sit for about 2 or 3 minutes and then started to rub with my application rag. The stains didn't come off as easily as on porcelain but they DID COME OFF! I quickly rinsed the area with water and picked out a bigger area and got the same results! I think that if left on too long, this stuff would harm the paint and I'm not encouraging its use on painted surfaces but it did work very well in this instance! I'm glad I took the chance and used it but I played it safe by trying a small area first! Success!!!

Always keep a container of household Baking Soda mixed in water to Neutralize the acid, then Flush w/ plenty of Fresh Water. Wear rubber gloves & protection for breathing around FUMES & Eye wear.
