Well, we are getting close enough to finishing the Erie 71 that we're actually starting to think about re-assembly!

We had some ad glass made by T-Way (looks great by the way)a while back and I've never quite known how to keep it in the metal holder on the door. Some have suggested silicone, edge rubber, epoxy, but I figured that those were probably not the original methods.

Luckily, I happened to be looking at a banged up old door a week ago, and happened to see a piece of mangled copper laying in the ad glass holder. After straightening that piece, we were able to fabricate some reproductions.

I had one of the seniors in my class reproduce four of the clips out of sheet copper and they turned out great. They work perfectly, and I like that they are what the originals probably looked like.

So, for those of you who have lost confidence in the younger generations, hopefully this helps!

The student that made the copper ad glass clips for our Erie 71 came into class today and said that he'd like to polish them up.

I told him that it wasn't necessary since the doors will very rarely be open and no-one will probably ever even notice them.

His exact words were "I don't care if anyone else notices them. I'll know they're in there and every time I look at that pump, I'll know they were done right."

That is why I love my job!

I'm sure that as the teacher, it is your teachings that have instilled the values of good craftsmanship, work ethic, pride and diligence in that impressionable young mans heart & mind.

What a gift you have bestowed upon him....one that will serve him well for the rest of his life.

Hats off to both of you!!!

Thanks for the nice comments Dave, but most people that know me would probably say you're way off!
