1/2" NPT (National Pipe Thread). You can get one cut and threaded cheaper than shipping.

1/2" NPT doesnt fit... The threads must be smaller than that...

OK--Try a piece of 3/8 and see if it fits? It really should be 1/2 NPT.

Conduit is NPS, National Pipe Straight. Go to a good electrical shop and they should have the dies and conduit. Remember I'm a old machinest. MItch

Tapered pipe thread (NPT) is better as it will tighten against the taper in the thread versus having to bottom out or having to use a locknut. Originals were also cut with a NPT thread that assisted in sealing the conduits and making the electrical connections explosion proof.

If you look at the original post the man said that the 1/2 NPT would not fit. NPS is just a slight bit smaller in diameter and sometimes NPT will not go in it. Maybe just the first thread. As far as the explosion proof boxes go having worked for the missile bases and a refinery for many years the common was NPS. Thanks Mitch
