Had someone put me onto this sign a week ago and drove down to Washington State to pick this one up today. It's a double sided porcelain Marfak sign and one of the rare ones indeed. A 5-piece DSP sign dated A-6-39 and complete with hanger, top sign and three of the lower signs in Chevrolet, Ford, and Plymouth. All pieces are date matched DSP's but the Plymouth sign is a lighter shade of blue for some reason? I've only ever seen two of these signs aside from this one and only one of those were complete. I'm told they are extremely rare to begin with and it's definitely a very cool sign. It's like 7 feet tall by 4' wide when all connected and hung from the upper frame. A few scratches in the top sign but great shelving, and a real decent field for a 73 year old sign. Gotta find a place to hang this now. It's big.

Man Graeme, you are getting an awesome collection going there,we'll have to hook up next time I'm out that way as I always get over and spend time with Joe and usually see Kim as well. Maybe I can talk Joe in pulling one of the cars out for a tour if it's nice out.(Hint, Hint Joe, if your reading this, lol). Later. Ken.

It's pretty cool. Now I'm off to pick up another Bennett 541 here in Salem and then we're headed back home. Wonder what I'll find on the way home...maybe a car can for Joe? lol

I sold mine a few years back, mint complete with Lincoln, dated -----39 and it wasn't porcelain. I'm not a 100% sure but I think it painted metal??? Did yours come with a cross brace ? Any way very hard to come by.

Definitely Porcelain, and heavy. Couple scratches but all pretty minor. I was expecting painted tin and almost died when I saw it because it is fore sure a DSP and so are the bottom pieces. Just loaded up my Bennett 541 and then bought a 40" Popeye custom Neon today, an old 30" neon phillips 66 clock, retored candy cigarette machine from the 40's, antique payphone, a condom machine from the 50's, and a set of drive in speakers with a stand.
Pretty good haul today and fully loaded on the way home. More pics later.

Yup...painted metal Doug. I thought it was porcelain because it was so heavy and I could feel the letters clearly as if they were raised, but finally got a real good look at it today and it's painted metal. Nice condition and all pieces date matched. Going to clean it up tonight and see where it can hang.

Graeme, you have answered a question that I have asked for about 5 years. I have the same "Marfak" sign with no automobile signs on it, now I know what it should look like, thanks for posting the picture. My son had already told me that if you read the sign by itself it ,almost looks obscene. LOL

Yeah...they do leave that phrase rather open ended without the lower signs. Here's another picture that Jamie was kind enough to email a link on. This picture was in a thread a couple years ago and belonged to (Doug) Blacktee. His was mint and allowed me to compare this sign with.

Just to make things clear. That photo was taken at Erol Tuzcu's garage before I bought it. That's not my collection in the back ground. Mine's bigger and better. LMAO
