Tom, way to stay on topic
.
The Red Crown. If you would put some effort in to learning to read, you would see that since joining the site I've talked to enough guys to learn that it may have been a repo, and have enough doubt I'd never buy or sell another sign like that or similar again.
Funny that the Mobil sign I asked someone on here about and told me it was most likely an authentic version of the one that is commonly repro'd. I sold that one right before I joined the site, and when I learned it had been reproduced and I couldn't be 100% positive I offered the seller her money back, she refused.
Both of those signs I did not know enough about at the time to buy or to sell. Since joining and talking to a wide variety of new people, I've learned to bury my nose is books/catalogs before doing anything else.
I actually edited this to take out my insulting response even though you apparently have no regard for me.
People with a mentality like yours are ruining this hobby. Everyone makes mistakes, especially when they first start. It's not like I'm sitting here reveling in the fact that I may or may not have sold an unauthentic sign. I could understand the problem if I was constantly polluting the hobby with garbage, but I haven't and I won't.
I'll tell you just like I tell everyone, view my history. You had to go through probably 50 other unquestionably authentic signs to find 2 of my early pieces. 1 of which may have been a repro, the other someone from this site told me after I sold it it may have been 50/50. I offered the buyer her money back because I was unsure, she refused. End of story.
As I said, guys like you are killing this for new collectors, or trying to anyways if I didn't love this hobby, I'd give up the days I spend each month trying to find pieces to add to my collection, and sell and trade, and instead of making a minimal or decent profit margin on signs I'd go spend a couple of hours buying from Vicks and beating on ***** with a hammer and makes hundreds instead of twenties.
I mean, why try to stay honest, why try to help out your fellow man, and point stuff out if all anyone is gonna do is harp on something I have already said I've learned about? If all I'm going to do is get harassed it's worth it not to waste my time and money trying to be part of an excellent tradition. Do you or anyone else who is just completely "holier than thou" think you are driving people to pollute this hobby or abandon it all together? I try to bring people in, not push them out.
Just don't get it.
