I am stunned tonight.... A common and I really mean truly common Tidewater Handy oiler went for over $100, instead of the $20-$25 they normally go for... # 380460888514

The terrible thing is... The price wasn't driven up by new members of Ebay...

What in the world is going on with Tidewater smalls?

I personlly think it's new money coming into the hobby,, young money, the old money is staying in the old guys pockets.. New young collectors or wanna be collectors are coming into the hobby because of all the auctions and hype and yes, American Pickers,, I know some of you old guys on here don't like American Pickers but it is whats helping to drive the prices up, alot of these new young guys are making the larger money like $100K plus and think it's a good place to store their extra coin. .. Take advantage of it and sell some of your stuff. Don't complain about the prices being high take advantage of something you don't have any control of anyway. JMO.

I agree Wes.American Pickers and the reality shows are a double-edge sword for our hobby.Sometimes depends which side of the fence you are on,BUYING OR SELLING.The enjoyment of preserving and the thrill of the hunt are the key for most true "collectors" and not so much the profit motive.JM2C

Hey Dick,,, I think the only viewers that don't like American Pickers are the old collectors, they seem to think the show is damaging there value on stuff, personally I think it is helping the value, it's all for TV and for the new young people, thats what they like,, the show seems to be a success..like it or not ? It is what it is,,,ain't goin to change... LOL !!!

As a young collector I can tell you I don't like any of those shows. The big reason why I dont is that now everybody is an expert in this hobby because they have watched these shows. I Have more people who come to my house and seem to know more about my collection and what it's worth than I do. I always tell those people it's all for sale if they would like to purchase funny thing no one ever steps up to the plate. I do think the shows have done some good as people are find things again and you end up seeing it for sale. If I was ready to get out of this hobby now seems to be a good time since eBay prices are so high

Not big on reality shows either. It's all so scripted and painful to watch most of them.
