As many saw there was a garage sale at Don Letson's garage in Portland Oregon. Don was the terminal manager for Flying A in the 50's and 60's and stayed on after it was sold to Phillips 66. About 15 years ago I bought several globe lenses and signs from him. In fact the lenses were the other sides of the ones I bought Fri. In a weak moment I sold my More Miles lens to a friend a few years ago. I arrived at the sale wed afternoon with a motor home, my son and a couple friends, ended up number 3 in line but luckily it was Craig Osbeck ahead of me and he was after the porcelain signs Don had. Through thurs evening there were only about 15 people there, it blossomed to 150 by the time the doors opened at 9:00am. All the globes were in a small office so I made a mad dash, grabbed a cart and started loading. They only allowed 5 people in at a time so I kind of had free reign. Prices were extremely reasonable on most items. I got the items pictured here plus lots more, spent enough to get the silent treatment from the wife, would have rather gotten yelled at. Some globes are duplicates for me so may be doing some trading in the future. Not pictured is a great 8 foot flag that flew on one of Associated's ships. I was going to put this in BOTW but I think it rates as a BOTY for me. The More Miles globe is in an unusual aluminum low profile body, a little wider then most. The leather bound portfolio has hand tinted photos and blueprints of the new wedding cake style stations. Don sold me another similar portfolio of advertising from 1938 when there was another transition in style. Super buys Neil. I really like the variety of the lenses as well as the station design book. What a great opportunity it was for you and the others there that day! Darin

I would love to have been there! When you have to grab things to keep someone else from getting it, is a great excuse to buy lots of stuff. LOL…….. Great haul!

Great photos, and just now getting the ants out of the blankets from the dryer. Sidewalks were very hot sleeping on, and bathrooms a block away. Tough for a old guy in the middle of the night. Had a chance to meet Scott wright and sent a riding lawn mover that was there to him this afternoon. That lawn mover was just what everyone wanted it seemed.

Hi Neal.
I'm glad the Flying A went to someone who will enjoy them. Curious why you didn't buy the two Flying A glass lenses? One white and one Red ? Carolyn (Don's daughterd)

Hi Carolyn, I have some of those already, might have got them from your Dad. It was great to meet all of you and I still am going through boxes, have several pics of your Dad and told Susan I'll get those to her. Most fun I've had for a long time plus got to spend a couple mostly relaxing days with my son. Neil
