Well here I go talking about having to leave Florida to go out to REAL states to find neat stuff:) OK I have BIG TIME poison ivy. The guys girlfriend copmes out to show me the pump that I can't see right in front of me because the poison ivy vines. She jumps in there and starts pulling the vines out and I say "Hey I think that's poison ivy". She says "no way" so I stood back a little further. I barely touched the nice oily leaves and I have it all over:( I couldn't imagine what she looks like now. Any ways New York City Fire Tag which had the model and serail number to make sure nobody switched the fire approvalb tag to another pump and it was installed on a a farm in CT in 1943 as it was marked in the original slab. Kinda cool story. Gotta go kinda itchy need more calydryl.

Part two. Less itchy with lotion now. OK the Lubester as I call it is unbeilievable. Not a scratch. Very art deco and way cool. It rises up pnuematically to get access to the insides to switch out the oil can. What year is Mobil GX? What can anybody tell us about this oiler contraption? There also is a wayne 60 Narrow frame behind the amaile base with top bonnett only that I paid $25 for:) The white sign base with existing pole and almost no rust is "AMALIE OILS & GREASES" sorry I didnt get a better picture of the letters.

I have been Collecting Associated and Tide Water items for about 2 years now... (need to give AL and Randy a little run for their money)

I don't seem to find a lot of early Associated Oil items, most items I find are from after the merger... But as the story goes, "even a blind squirrel finds an acorn occasionally". Well here is my "blind squirrel" find....

The order booklet is NOS, never been used... The carbon paper is still attached and the booklet had never been opened to the back page (hence my finger to hold it open)

I bought a guy out over the weekend, His Grandfather started out with Lion Oil in the late 1940s, with 4 stations and one bulk plant. They continued to grow up until 1981 when Lion Forced them out of the stations, The Stations were sold and rebranded but they continued to Sell Bulk oil all the way up until 2000. Most of these smaller signs and globe were resting in the back seat of a '56 Chevrolet until this last week for over 30 years.

A good week for me

What's the story with the Gilbarco air meter? I have one just like it I found a couple of years ago. I have the original base but missing the section between the base and the air meter. Would love to find an original one.

Great find and love the globe. I would love to someday make at least one find of a globe plucked out of a barn or bulk plant type setting.

Yes, you are right. I've never heard of a Lion Gas Station out in Canada. But, then again I was under the impression that Flying A never made it past the border. Bob Richards, corrected me on that.

Was able to "steal" this magazine ad. Glad my Canadian neighbors didn't see it first....

August 1, 1933, Veedol magazine ad letting Canadians know that Veedol could now be found in sealed cans:

In the ad are also the "Small Diamond Star Burst" Imperial 1 Qt can and Imperial 6 Qt can.... I have been trying to date the Small Diamond cans for a while.... As Veedol went to the "Large Diamond Star Burst logo almost immediately....

Bob, sharp eye there. Great score. I always assumed that the small diamond was their first round sealed quart in 1933 and you have now confirmed it. Strange that it wasn't used on the other tins like the rectangular 6 quart tin or the tall round one gallon, none that I am aware of at least. The small diamond Canadian quarts are fairly scarce so they probably were not used very long before going to the larger style. Are the US versions similar? Don.

Don, if you look closely at the ad. The small blurb on the left hand side reads that "At leading stores is 6 Qt cans". I am taking for granted that your can is a 2 gallon?

I went out to take photos of my Small Diamonds vs Large Diamonds and I noticed something I hadn't paid attention to before... It shows in Randy's photos...

US Small Diamond cans had a small orange diamond whereas the Canadian version did not... Plus a can of Veedol oil in the US was 30 cents, not the 40 cents as a can was in Canada....

I have been attempting to put forth a little display that shows the progression of Tide Water items through Getty... (so if anyone has an extra tan 1# grease can... I could really use one for my little display)

(I'm sorry if we have bored any of you that don't Collect
Tide Water cans.... LOL)

So my two black Veedol tins on the bottom shelf, the rectangular 6 imperial quart and the tall round 4 imperial quart (one imperial gallon), would be considered small diamond tins since their images are within the white/orange rectangle?! Aha!! Always learning something new on this site. Don't know what the exchange rate was in 1933, also Canadian quarts are 25% larger than the US quarts, but you would expect stuff up here to cost more. It still does!! Cheers, Don.
