Who knows? There were lots of different manufacturers of them and lots of variances! You got a bonus on that one with the embossed Texaco lid! Kind of cool being up on legs too!

That is cool. I would not mind having that. I would take that Texaco lid off and put my embossed Shell lid on.

Your SHELL is embossed? Instead of being Cast Iron like the TEXACO in picture.

but isn't the pump suppose to be over the lid? it looks to be off to the side. kind of looks like they might have made a lubester out of a metal box. is that possible?

I don't think so. Ask yourself--what would the metal box have been for and why repurpose it? I believe it was just some companys idea of how it should be done!

Most lubsters handles are on the side. This one is on the back opposite the spout. Had to come from the factory this way. Richard

i'm going to look at it tomorrow. so it's not strange that this is not over the lid? i thought it was over the lid so it can drip into the bottom. if you guys tell me it looks legit them in good with it.

have you seen the spout opposite the handle before. isn't the spout usually over the lid?

That is original and correct. The spring loaded swing away pipe catches any oil that would drip out of the spout and directs it back into the tank. Would be difficult to have a bottle sit level and sturdy on top of the cast iron filler lid; Due to the cast letters on it.

You make sense Dave. as i am new to the Petroliana collecting. i assumes that the spout was over the lid and u places the bottle over the screen to catch any drips. But the spout fits in the bottle and the screen is to catch anything from falling into the box. You know what happens when you assume.
