I'm just about done with my Tokheim 36B Showcase pump and during the rebuild, I installed a 60 rpm motor to power the Veeder Root, but it didn't have enough power to keep it going! Now this is a totally rebuilt computer that Joe did for me and it turns over easily with 2 fingers? What am I doing wrong? Motor geared too high? Where can I find a lower geared motor? Is there anywhere on the net that I might find one? Maybe its some other problem? Thanks--KEVIN

Subfractional gearmotors!!!! Wahoo!!! I just happen to have a Grainger catalog! Wouldn't a person be a little better off with a higher starting torque rating than the 3M257 has? Looks like 13 inch pounds start and 11 inch pounds run. It looks like the higher rated motors are about the same price range?

Kevin, Try realigning your driveshaft between your motor and your computer. It seems that if it starts to turn it would keep on turning?? Must be binding somewhere. Rob

That was the first thing I checked Rob. The shaft is free throughout the entire revolution. Alignment is perfect.

Well, after studying the catalog for some time, it is obvious that the start/run torque ratings are inversely proportional to the rpm ratings. Therefore, if you double the rpm, the start/run ratings will drop by more than 1/2! The trick then is to select a suitable rpm range and find a motor with a suitable torque rating to handle the load. The Grainger catalog is pretty cool, in that they even tell you how to measure the torque load of any driven shaft! I decided to go with the 3m257 motor as it has pretty good torque specs and still maintains 25 rpm.
