Hello everyone,

New to the site, but I have an interesting item that I'm not sure what it's worth. I contacted an individual from AutomobiliaUsa.com who informed me of the following:

Hi Gary -

Atlantic started back in 1866, a few years later Standard took it over. It became a refining company after the Standard break-up in 1911. Atlantic began marketing on it's own in 1915. I believe your unit is a 1816 because of it's design. It could be a few years later, but in the 1920's the design changed.

It looks to me that it is "pretty much" all there. It is missing a screen filter that had mesh wire in it at the large opening in the barrel. This filter is removable and that is probably why it is missing. Gilbert & Barker made several different oil dispensers through the years, but not many like this.

Hope this helps,

Gary Carpenter

Can anyone provide any particular information about this item? What it's worth? How rare it is? Thanks!

Randy and Gary, this article mentions Rayolight Oil (Kerosene) and even shows a very small (too small) photo of a very early Rayolight delivery truck...

seems like you are looking for a value on this thing...

in my opinion....I would pay up to 350.00 if I were in the right mood....it is pretty cool and to have the advertising on it...neat!

it appears to be missing the lid...

very neat piece!!!

So does it almost hurt the value of this item because it wasn't mass produced? Is there a fine line between rare and insignificant when it comes to collecting?

I'm sure no one knows a true value of it... or maybe they do. Does anyone have the best idea for me if I was looking to part with it? Does an auction make sense? I live in Rhode Island, so there aren't many collectors here who will pay what I believe I can get.

Any input appreciated!
