Our hobby is very well and good if 18 people were willing to bid a Sunoco rest room sign up to $1600.00. I'm really pleased, I think, as I thought the top price would be half that. Am I missing something here?

Not that I will,but I'd be more inclined to give $1600 for the $400 one...love it's rust.

I have a real nice one too, but I think the cheaper one would clean up lots. I've been kinda watching this Sunoco stuff go upward these last few years. I'm just dreaming about the darn sign anyways.Its gone just like the 640 million dollar lottery yesterday that I think I deserved too. sniff...

I would give $400 all day long for the rougher one that sold in January!! To bad I've only been in this game for about 2 1/2 weeks!!

Condition is KING. No matter what one collects, if you collect based on condition then you will never lose money. The mint stuff always holds value even in a recession.

SC62 if you're just starting out and can afford it. You may want to consider having fewer pieces but higher quality. Quality over quantity in the long run yields a greater return. As exemplified by the two Sunoco signs sold.

And if I can't afford it??

It's all about having fun. At the end of the day; you are going to have to buy, collect and search out items within the limits of your budget.
