What a small world we live in! The pic you have of the Post office in Gage, NM was just 18 miles West of where I grew up in Deming, NM! Of course, I'm not of the era but was really cool being able to relate to the area.

Wow those cans on the top pic look like milk cans. I wonder if the same company made both...

Nicole, I'd be surprised if the same company made both. Milk cans originally had a thick tin plating, because most metals give a terrible taste to milk, and were high-grade stainless steel later on. I agree, though, the Richfield cans do look like the cream cans of the Midwest.
The gas cans of the era I see in area flea markets appear to be galvanized.
