Cleaned out my phone today download some pictures thought I would share them with you guys. Since we are all into oil and gas collectibles this is where it all starts. We have been experiencing a major oil boom around my area just like the one up in North Dakota you have probably seen on TV, with the traffic, man camps and the whole 9 yards. I'm on the local volunteer fire department and our calls have went up dramatically also.

This well they thought they had "killed" and we're swapping out the "christmas tree" when the well decided to blow. The first picture I did not take an is what it looked like before we arrive on scene. Luckily it never found an ignition source, the wind just happen to be in our favor. We sprayed water and foam on the well head to keep it cool as they stab the new christmas tree and got it bolted down, you would not believe the heat of the oil when it comes out of the ground and it really heats up the tighter you pinch it.

Cool pics, thanks. Are you getting all of the problems that they are getting in the other boom towns too?

I imagine (I hope anyway) that some taxes from the drilling will go your way to support the Fire and Police Departments...you know, sharing the riches. Does that happen any more?

Good thing that oily guy had eye protection! shocked

They say it can be dangerous to breathe in cooking oil spray--hope that guy has good health insurance.

Nice catch Bob.
I worked the oil rigs back in the early 80's. A job that definately seperates the men from the boys. After that I drove a "Kill Truck" that would kill the pressure on wells so they could pull tubing, rods etc.
Drilling mud pumped over 1 mile down, gets so hot it can almost burn your skin.
Chuck.

Thanks all, have some pics of one we burned up I will post one of these days.

To answer a few questions. Yes there has been problems with the increased growth, crime has increased and things like that you would expect. And other things you don't think about. A big one around our area is daycare never has been a problem now some places there's as much as a 6 month wait. Eating, you don't even try to go out and eat around noon anymore. Motel rooms , there is a new motel going in. In a way it is exciting to be around. This is a farming area that has been losing population since the 30's other ways it's kind of a pain our infrastructure was not meant for this kind of traffic load.

Nicole
Our county will see an increase in revenue from sales taxes and road crossing permits etc. but all we receive from the county is some repair funds. We receive an operational grant from the state yearly but most of our operations comes from donations and most of the oil companies have been really good in donating to us.

These pictures should carry a warning label. I'd hate to see some tree hugger stumble upon them and have a stroke ! smirk
