Gas 22 cents? What was that, the thirties? That must have been a lot of money then. I remember either the late 60's or the early 70's it being 35 cents a gallon. Or mabybe I'm so old my memory is just going... frown

You could still buy gas for under 25 cents a gallon through the late sixties. There was still what they called gas wars and a lot of promotions. ( buy 8 gallons of gas get a free glass). Oh yeah, that was back when there was still attendants. I did that for a few months after high school and made 95 cents an hour.
By the mid seventies gas started climbing upwards, stamps started to disappear and you would have thought it was a national disaster when 50 cents a gallon showed up on the pump.

I remember in 1974 when gas went to 50 cents a gallon and I wondered how us working people where going to make it! Then the gas lines began and the oil embargo. We only thought we were in troubled times then!

I remember when I was a kid (probably 1968 or so) my dad driving all over town looking for a station that still sold gas for under 30c in protest because he was ticked the price was going up. In 1979 I said I was going to sell my Camaro big block if gas hit 75c, and we all know what happened that year.

In 1970 you could still get gas for 25.9 in Spokane at the "no name" station on 2nd and Brown, but your car didn't run too well after you filled up.

So I'm guessing that pic with the visibles and the handwritten sign for gas 22 cents would have been for 5 or 10 gallons--not the price per gallon...
