There was a lady by the name of Bridgett Fuget I believe that was selling tubes on fee bay saying they would work in the Red Crown or Mail Pouch thermomters. I think I got the last one she had- but It doesn't matter because they dont read right for the Red Crowns..... I do belive there could be a couple different tubes used in the Standard oil thermoters because the different variations do not all have the same temperature ranges. The tube I have 28" o.a.l. 70degrees reads aprox 11" from the very bottom (bulb end) might read right on a Mail Pouch I don't know... If it would It would be great if someone could tell me! I bought the rest of the stock that Bridgett had and there are no more. I should have them this week if anyone wants one. $45.00 plus $12.00 shipping. Let me know at hotcidr@cox.net

I too bought the 28" replacement tubes that are out there. The tubes were advertised as replacements for the 6 ft mail pouch and polarine thermometers. I was disappointed that the tubes read an incorrect temperature.... That was 50 degrees off!! Oh well, at least it had a tube in it right. So I've seen these class room thermometers floating around ( I've probally seen 5 in the last 10 years). So I would consider them rare. I traded with another oldgasser to finally get one in my hands. I always believed that the tube was going to be a close match for replacing the tube on a 6 ft thermometer. The tube in this classroom thermometer is the same tube that has been peddled around the hobby since I've been in it!! When I lay a replacement tube that I bought from one of the suppliers next to this classroom thermometer, the mercury levels are exactly in the same spot. I believe all these tubes on the market are not NOS tubes for the mail pouch, but are NOS tubes for these classroom thermometers. Now think about a failed marketing attempt to put 2 of these in every middle school and high school in the country...... And you have a ton of over stock. Remember I would consider these fairly scarce??? Just a theory! In the pic you can see how big this tube is compared to a normal size tube in a 39 in thermometer.
