While excavating for a new construction project along US route 1, north of Boston, a porcelian sign was uncovered. The sign is 18"w x 26"h, two-sided, advertising the 'National Automobile Association (NAA), Est. 1904, Official Garage'. I can only find limited information on the NAA -'founded in 1904, obsorbed in 1907 into the Boston Motor Club, which then folded in 1927'. Does anyone have any additional information on the National Automobile Association? How would a value be determined on such an item? Thanks for your expert opinions. I have photos but they're too big to upload.

Nice sign. Good thing it did not get damaged during the digging.

How deep was it buried? Did you see the corner sticking out? C'mon - the story HAS to have some better details than "it was uncovered"...

It was about 6"below the surface in loamy material, the site is a former garage/auto dismatling location. auto operations ceased in the early 60's and someone brought in from 1'-6' of fill onsite. Burger King occupied the site from mid 70's to 2006+/-. We've been conducting environmental clean-up as we're preparing and contructing a five unit strip plaza. Any time we excavate in certain areas we uncover small, old, damaged, heavy chromed auto parts. Story is they stockpiled the engines and then seperated them for metal recycling.
